I just acquired an XE-5 and while it's smaller than my XT-3 I find it less comfortable to hold negating any benefit. I think it would be fine

Sounds like the xt5 is a damn fine balance. I do have small hands the xe5 and xt30 look tiny

I think that the comfort issue with XE bodies in general is real. I’ve used one older one extensively and used all of them except for the XE5, and if you tend to constantly hold the camera in hand it isn’t super comfortable due to the boxy shape. Using it with a very small lens helps as does carrying it in some sort of small bag and/or using a wrist strap.

I wouldn't buy a Fuji today if it wasn't either the X-E5 or the X-T5 and there's a lot more to like about the T5.

Plenty of cheaper used copies floating around too. Of course the T6 is on the way and prices will crater after that so just know you're gonna lose money on it.

Just slap a Voigt 27mm on it and be done. Bonus, you get an Ultron unlike all the Noktons running around Z mount.

Like this, as I am loving my 27mm Voigt and it seems to be a perfect fit for the X-E5.

Need a backup Fuji to my X-T5 for my upcoming trip to Thailand this summer, as the wife and I are there for 2 months and I am not comfortable with having only 1 body. Was waiting to hear about the XPro 4, but now that it is rumored for 2027, the X-E5 will have to do. So I put an offer on GT this week and it got accepted for $1,550 or $150 off list price.

While ideally I would like it to have the larger W265 battery, 1/8000 mech shutter and be WR, a Fuji rangefinder style camera with those specs does not exist (yet).

I bought as battery backups 2 SmalRig W126W rechargeable batteries that can be charged by a standard USB-C cable, no separate charger needed. My iPhone charger or Anker 10,000 MaH power bank I take with me anyway will charge the batteries. Also got a SmallRig black leather case, I have the same on the X-T5 and it works out just great. Stock photo on X-E5 below.

The divergent batteries pose a problem for some like you who want a second Fujifilm camera either as a backup or as a companion to the primary wit a different lens. this is especially true for those who travel and want to minimize gear size and weight and maximize functionality. Imagine if they had made the XE5 just a bit larger and used the newer battery of the XT5. Heck, I might have gotten one! (Admittedly, “travelers with two Fujifilm cameras” is a small demographic…)

If the second camera is an “almost certain I won’t use it but in case disaster strikes” camera then something really small an inexpensive could do. On the other hand, if it is a “I’ll put a different lens on the second body and use it side-by-side with my main camera” situation… you could even consider a second XT5, perhaps used.It hardly costs much more than the XE5. (Or, two XE5s?)

For anyone hoping for a XPro4 in the familiar hybrid-viewfinder format… I wouldn’t get your hopes up on the bass of the very sketchy rumors floating around, especially given the long and disappointing history of rumors that “the next XPro is coming!”.

I carry an iPad Pro with a two-outlet USB-C power supply that supports international plugs. I can use that to charge everything — phone watch, AirPods… and the battery in the camera via a direct USB-C cable connection. It is rare — virtually never happens — to use up more than one XT5 battery in a day, so at night I just plug the USB-C connector into the camera directly to charge the battery.

(When I carried the XPro2 with the smaller batteries, I regularly depleted one and moved to the second, so I carried a small dual-battery charger. But one plus for me of the larger XT5 batteries is that I no longer carry that separate charger.)

My use for a 2nd camera is a backup of course, but to also have the Voigt 27mm on the X-E5 and 1 of the other 5 lenses I am taking on my X-T5 (14mm f2.8, 23mm f2, 35mm f1.4R, 50mm f2 or Sig 56mm f1.4 and Fuji 90mm f2). Wanted to get a smaller rangefinder style body rather than a 2nd X-T5. All goes along with 14" MBP Pro in a TT Backstory 13 for airline travel. For daily carry I will use a PD 6L sling and can carry 2 bodies and 4 lenses total or 1 body and 5 lenses inc the 90 f2 (this is my normal X-T5 setup now, weights just under 7lbs).

For power, we bring a 4 outlet receptacle w/2m cord that plugs into the wall and converts 220 into 110 Volts. Also has built-in 2 USB-A and C outlets and we use this for the Apple TV, charging the cameras, MBP and phones. Very compact and fits in my luggage. Also bring a small dual USB outlet wall charger just in case, plus the one my wife always has in her purse.

That’s similar to a set of lenses I sometimes carry: 14mm f/2.8, 27mm f/2.8, 50mm f/2, 90mm f/2. If I’m only visiting urban locations I probably would not carry the 90mm, since the others cover my street photography needs. I used ot sometimes swap in a 35mm f/1.4 and/or 23mm f/1.4 for night street photography, but these days with higher ISO cameras the f/2.8 lenses do the trick.

Only bring a small dual USB outlet wall charger just in case, plus the one my wife always has in her purse.

My wife sometimes uses something similar to what you carry with the US outlets. I finally decided a year or so ago that I really could get by with just the USB-C stuff with that Apple adapter. The stuff I need to charge includes:

iPad Pro
iPhone
Apple watch
AirPods
Camera batteries
Toothbrush
shaver

With one exception all of that stuff now charges from USB-C. I have a little foldable three-panel wireless charger for the phone, watch, and Airpods, and it plugs into one of the USB-C ports on the Apple charger at night. I usually plug the camera with its battery into the other. Most of the time I can simply plug the iPad into the unused cable for the camera when I use it. My wife and I share the electric toothbrush (but not the brushes!) and it charges on USB.

The shaver is the only thing that won’t charge on USB. But since I have a beard I can get away with a trim once a week or so, and the thing will go for weeks on a charge.

As you probably know, if you want to travel light it is all about keeping things and small and light and simple as possible! (We are almost always carry-on luggage-only travelers, even for up to 10 weeks of international travel.)

While waiting for my X-E5 to be delivered , I was perusing YT vids on Fuji and came across this video comparing the X-T30 III, X-T50 and X-E5. It's by a photographer who spent a week in Cuba comapring each camera. Thought you might find it helpful. Plus it has some wonderful shots of old classic cars.

Nice video. The xt30 is certainly tiny and an obvious choice financially. I’d be worried it might be too small lol. Couldn’t be bothered with the 13-33 but I do like 13 (19.5mm) on tap is cool.

I’d likely opt for a couple lenses with aperture on them. Xt5 or xt30iii or x100 seem smart.

Cv 18 , 27 and a Fuji 35 and 56 don’t sound terrible.

I’m already making a kit in my mid. Eye roll to myself. Equivalent of 28 and 50 or 35 75 (2 lenses only) is where I’d go.

Absolutely love the colors in some of his pics.

For me I need 3 primes minimum for general shooting; a semi wide around 20mm, 35-50 and 70-85 (FF eq). Rather than a slow wide angle zoom, I recently purchased the small Fuji 14mm f2.8 R lens from mpb dot com. While listed as Excellent condition, it had all accessories including caps, hood and the og box, and was like new at $279. A real savings off the $1,000 list price and it was made in Japan to boot.

A few days ago I went out to shoot some of the local desert wildflowers and took the 14, C/V 27 and 50 f2.

That brings up something I’ve observed and wondered about. I see people buying hte smallest body available… and then adding grips, cases, thumb rests, etc. because the small body isn’t comfortable for them.

In many cases I think they might have been better off just getting a slightly larger camera with a body that is easier to handle and then foregoing the add-ons.

There’s certainly a place for a very small ILC like the XE5, but for people who aren’t really comfortable with the handling compromises that comes with it…

That camera was released a dozen years go. At the time it was a fine option, but things have improved significantly since then and it is likely that the only reason to acquire such a camera now would be nostalgia or being very cost constrained.

Both points make sense. I was just thinking that any paid work I use my Nikons for and the Fuji is just for fun but I’m sure the xt5 is just a better choice. Better than all the other newer models mentioned too.

Yes I agree. I feel the X-T5 is the best camera body in the X mount range… In fact for me, the Best overall design mirrorless camera I’ve had since getting into mirrorless back in 2002 with the D100 (Nikon shooter since mid 80's) and this includes the 18 different bodies I owned since from Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic, OM and Sony.

The X-T5 has everything I want: a 3 way tilting screen (not flippy), a high MP sensor, dual card slots, 1/8000 mechanical shutter, AF joystick, ISO and SS dials with buttons for shortcuts, a full magnesium build, an excellent battery, and is WR. Yet it is very compact and easy to use. Though I always shoot Raw, the film simulations are a great feature, more so that I thought. And I only paid $1,599 new for it last year, what a buy, as my D800 and A7RIV cost close to double that new back in 2012 and 2019.

Sure it's not perfect but overall, I like it the best.
