It was 1953, the sci-fi movie, War of the Worlds, based on H.G. Wells 1898 novel, debuted in theaters. The original, starring Gene Barry was a big hit. Martians invade, humanity is helpless, and there is a resolution I won't reveal in case you want to look it up. The flick gets 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, so you may want to watch it.
I tell you all of this because an art installation at the University of Texas, "Gateway" reminds me of the movie. No, it is not identical to the machines of the Martian invasion, it is the way they loom.
Note: There have been several versions of War of the Worlds, forget the one with Tom Cruise and find the original.
YES on the 1953 movie Aboud! I still remember the $1 all Saturday movies and it included a hot dog!
The "aliens" were great with their "death-ray".
Great composition! Really unique!
