I pulled the trigger on the Brightin Star. I dont even need it to rival the Apo Cron, but I'm happy if it matches the Voigtländer 35mm f2 Ultron in optical performance. Because the Ultron doesn't have 30cm MFD, so that'd be worth it to me to swap it for the Brightin Star.

From the reviews so far, the Brightin Star 35mm 1.7 Apo doesn't seem to be very sharp wide open, and stopping down to f/2 doesn't improve things much either.

Honestly, I think LLL should design a Leica 35mm f/1.2 Noct with more character, following the signature of the "OG" 50mm f/1, rather than the modern interpretation we have now.

Having now shot the LLL 50/1.2 and 35/1.4, that company impresses me. I’d love a uber speed 28/1.2 or 35/1.2 from them.
For what it's worth, communicating with BS about this lens (which they asked ME to review) has been a total nightmare. I would assume if you back the Kickstarter that there will be very little help for you available if you require it.
I certainly wouldn't gamble $800 on it pre-release, and I'd either buy it used or from B&H down the road. That's just me based on what I've seen so far from BS.
Another month of radio silence from BS. Only a few new video reviews on YT as well. No clue what's going on with this company or the Kickstarter.
There are a few quite nice photos in here, especially at close focus, unlike the previous uncslop reviews.
Looks like they are pushing a "Makuake" campaign (their version of Kickstarter). Here's a review on an APS-C camera. The comment on the white balance/color shift while stopping down was...interesting.
It would be nice if someone competent could get their hands on this lens.
It's supposed to ship end of February 2027 to Japanese customers who order through the Makuake crowdfunding project. Seems to have 50 supporters now and 26 days remaining for orders.

The US Kickstarter ships next month (supposedly) and to anywhere in the world. I'm surprised the Makuake is shipping so late.
