p.1 #1 · So much struggle deciding 14gm / 35gm or 16-35gmii

I would like thoughts on my scenario.
1. I believe lenses have soul beyond the stat metrics
2. I believe the best lens is the one on your camera when you get out an shoot vs thinking about shooting
3. I have ADHD and so this is very hard for me to evaluate because I get way to technical vs just get out and shoot.

I currently have the 14gm and 35gm. I use them very often and have been expanding my street / travel photography vs where i used to be more just landscapes. I like the 14 a lot in street because it has controllable distortion (imho) and I love the bokeh of the 35 and its sharpness.

The 16-35gmii looks appealing to me just for the factor of carrying less lenses and not having to switch lenses. I know this is the ultimate decision for what I am asking but where I would like thoughts is your experience with 14 vs 16 and 35 vs 35 on these lenses.

Thank you

Nothing wrong with a zoom and two primes? You should always pack what you need for when you need it.
I'm sure a used GM isn't too pricey?

The simple approach: rent the 16-35GM II and see how you like it.

Do you care about filters? Those are more challenging with the 14mm because you need to use 100mm sheets via an adapter on the front or a single internal at the back. Whereas the 16-35 just uses typical round threaded filters.

Currently have the 14mm and 35mm GM’s and over the years have had quite a few 16-35mm but not the latest Sony 16-35 GM. The Sony 35mm GM is a really nice lens but the Sony 14mm is probably the best wide angle I’ve ever owned, special for sure.

What I’ve found is that for events, weddings or work purposes in general I prefer to have the zoom just to be safe not to miss anything. For personal use where I’m not under the gun I always prefer the primes. Also just find that while f2.8 is fast it often just isn’t fast enough in very low light not to mention the bokeh advantage of the primes. With that said a part of me really wants to try the Sony 16-35 GM, looks like a goodun. Best to just own them all! It is a dilemma but unless using for event type work I always seem to favor the primes.
