p.1 #1 · Barbara Fritchie and the Civil War - Folklore

Barbara Fritchie, also known as Barbara Frietchie, and sometimes spelled Frietschie, was a Unionist during the Civil War. She became part of American folklore in part from a popular poem by John Greenleaf Whittier.

This is a mural on the back side of her house. The poem by Whittier is local folklore. As Confederate troops rode through Frederick town, she opened her window and waved Old Glory to them in disgust.

Again folklore.

Here is the poem. The tree branches were a huge distraction. I will return with a TS-E lens.

Shangri La was the predesscor to Camp David. It is still hidden in the mountains near Camp David

I agree 100% "Mich"! I posted it just as a reference. Progress can be "not gud" some times.

It is a Maryland Historic Landmark yet the Historical Society allows the "caretaker" to politicize the property with grafitti(which has nothing to do with the Civil War) in 1 of the windows!

The property called "Shangri-La" is still around and hidden in the back woods of the Catoctin Mountains near the presidential retreat, Camp David.
Thanks!
Dan
