p.1 #1 · Royal Crown Cola

Bob (Jarman) inspired me to resurrect this from long ago.

Found this old store outside of Lexington(VMI), Virginia.

The CocaCola sign is a "siting-in" target for the local cadets at VMI.

I enjoy the color one as much as the B&W.

Interesting, I just watched, yesterday, a video about the demise of Royal Crown.

Thanks Douglas!
This area is loaded with "forgotten" treasures.

Anybody remember scratchin' the cork out of the bottle caps searching to find a nickel (or other) cap. I always used the can opener blade on my Boy Scout knife to scrape the cork.

Very "Curtis Loew" -ish, searching for discarded caps that folks didn't bother to scrape out the cork. First "scratchers" lottery game, I guess.

I liked RC ... but my favorite was 10 2 and 4, Dr. Pepper in a cold glass bottle. But, RC had the bottle caps. That, and lugging wooden cases of bottles back to the store (deposit return).

One summer (I was 'bout 9 ), I would run a Saturday route with my dad to deliver for Pepsi ... hand carting wooden crates of full glass bottles into the store, crates of empties out from the store.

Yeah, a trip down memory lane ... but, I reckon some folks have no idea what I'm talking about, while others know exactly.

Nicely seen Dan.

Thanks Kent! You are bringing back great memories as a kid living in Iowa. I used to collect "pop bottles" for $.02 a bottle and also used newspapers at $.05 a pound. My little red wagon filled and off to the "recycle" place.

The old huge metal pop coolers! And a forerunner to "Lottery Tickets" as you mention!

Thanks for some great memories brother!
