for owners of the 24 1.4 GM: does yours make noise when its diaphragm opens/closes?
When not shot wide open, the A7 III cycles it, and mine has started to make quite some noise during its movement...
I think you answered your own question as your lens changed and was more silent before. Could e.g. be severe wear or a grain of whatever in the mechanism. I'd call up some repair facility. I guess this isn't exactly uncommon for them to handle. Worst case would probably be that they'd replace the diaphragm, but surely could tell you the cost beforehand. Should be better than the thing failing during a shoot.

What "Aperture Drive in AF" setting are you using? That makes a noticeable difference especially on wide aperture lenses.
Had no idea, actually, now I checked and it was standard (so thanks: learned something new!)
Silent is indeed quieter, although the camera alerts of slower focus.
I tried the 35GM and I hear the same noise, so I'd say no issue with the 24... or I have an issue with both :-)
