p.1 #1 · Leica Q2 vs Q3 AF after latest firmware update?
I’ve always held that the Q non-monochrom series doesn’t offer anything special over other cameras, but I do realize that it’s by my knowledge the only smallish camera that offers robust weather sealing and a 28 mm lens. I sold my X100V because I’m not a 35 mm shooter.
I can get that kind of weather sealing in other cameras, but I don’t know of any small wide lenses that offer robust weather sealing. An added bonus is that the Q offers manual focus and a somewhat usable DoF scale on the lens.
I owned the Q2 but sold it. Now, I’m thinking of getting a Q again, if my thinking about a lack of similar weather sealed alternatives (fixed or non-fixed) is correct.
I don’t need 60MP and I don’t really need a flip up LCD. I do want good AF, though, and fast start-up times.
Is the Q3 with the latest firmware a great improvement in that regard over the Q2?
p.1 #2 · Leica Q2 vs Q3 AF after latest firmware update?
Start up time was only minimally improved in v4 firmware, honestly unless you tried side by side with a camera that has v3 installed you’d never notice the difference. Like most Leicas, the first start up in awhile takes a bit longer, but after than you can power on in about a second or so.
AF is much better now in v4 though, both acquiring focus point and actually having the point it says it's in focus BE in focus. Still not Sony level of AF, but they made real improvements on the Q3 with the latest update I feel.
