p.1 #1 · Added a QD socket to my Wimberly AP-600 foot

I just thought I'd share a couple pictures of a project I completed over the weekend.

I really like the Wimberly AP-600 foot for the 600 RF F/4.0 (and others), but I had wished it had a QD socket like my other lens feet and camera plates. I did a little research and found a company that sold a socket that looked like it would work. I have a little CNC mill in my garage so I used it to bore the 3/8-16 threaded hole to accept the socket. Another idea I had was to add a pair of sockets for a more stable carry. The first would be centered between the mounting holes and the second would be added in the area between the 3/8-16 threaded hole and the pocket at the end of the foot.

If any of you are interested I could do this for you for a small charge.

This is great. I wish more 3rd market feet and cages included the qd point. THey are super nice to have when the product has it.

Do most of you trust the QD attachment on a sling as a solo attachment to hold say a R5 and a RF 400 f/2.8??
That single attachment point concerns me, and as such I have never used a QD.

I don't have a 400, but I've used Magpul MS4 Gen2 Dual QD Rifle Sling strap on a EF 300/2.8 II for a few years with several cameras including a 7dII and an R3, often with a 1.4x or 2x extender. I've only had one "failure" where the QD didn't latch correctly, after which I lubed the QD, and I now inspect it regularly. I also adjust the strap so that the lens is at a height where I can comfortably keep my hand under/around it.
