So I feel like I need to have a zoom lens even though I know I won't use it much, and don't see any currently for sale. I think I'm leaning towards the 16-80 but if you have a good deal on a 18-55 I may go for it. I think the newer ones will be more than I want to pay. I don't care AT ALL about barrel marks, but I do want clean glass.

Consider widening your search to the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8. You lose an aperture ring and OIS (depending on kit lens), but gain a constant 2.8 Max aperture, the size is just right, and the photos are crisp.

I had that lens for Sony a few years ago, it is pretty great. Good idea.
