We have exactly zero information about the level of Leica's involvement in the design of a new sensor. How do you equate this to Sigma's work on the Faveon sensor? Do you know the details of either? What are the sources. That is pure speculation at this point.
.
Well, I clearly said „I guess“, which makes it transparent that I speculate.
btw: I don‘t mind you disagreeing. What are your views concerning Dr. Kaufmann‘s statement:
„ … As has already been partially reported, we’re also developing our own sensor again.“
What is your, obviously differing, speculation?
To me, hiring a person at the VP level for the imaging sensor suggests that Leica really wants to invest in this component of their camera. Since they state that they have already worked on this sensor for some years, introducing a VP now indicates that they want to put additional attention to this component.
(I‘m not aware that Sigma has a VP for the management of the Foveon sensor. Probably some group leader, but I‘m not aware of more distinct attention).

What we do know is who Leica has hired to do that work. We know his name. We know his work history. We know his position and title. We know that he only started this Month. All of this can be verified through Leica itself, and sources like LinkedIn.
...
- Do we know his name? (I was not able to find out)
- I would be really interested in his work history: Can you disclose this?

I posted that information earlier in this thread or the other thread on this subject. I am out right now but will post it again here when I get back to my computer this evening.

OK here is the new VP's name and his previous employer. You can verify on Linked In.
The new VP is Markus Mierse who was previously at Fujitsu.

Yes, but think about it this way. Regardless of where the 1 billion euros plus is coming from, why would any new management, hypothetically, want to change what's already working? Leica is successful precisely because of its brand, products, and loyal customers. No rational owner would want to alienate the very people who fund the entire business...
Sure, a "new owner" might look for ways to improve the bottom line, possibly by increasing sales or tightening operations. That could even mean improving things like customer support. But deliberately cutting into the core of what makes Leica Leica would be self-defeating. Protecting the brand and its customers is not idealism, it's basic business sense....Show more →
The sale is definitely a potential problem. Sears looked pretty bad after some hedge fund guy bought it, haven't followed it not sure if craftsman tools are even good lately. Polaroid got ruined by money launderers I believe

The CEO of Quanta Computer, Barry Lam or the chip manufacturer TSMC, would be the best new investor. They both have incredible cash, further more, Mr. Lam is a big fan of Leica camera. TSMC is the king of IC chip manufacture, which helps on the new development of sensor designed by Leica.
Besides, this would erase the shadow cast over its luxury and prestige if it were to be acquired by China entrepreneur
