I rarely post here, and haven't actually posted on FM for a bit. I visited Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge for the first time. I can see myself spending more time here as the variety of birds and wildlife is fantastic. There were several Whopping Cranes present. but too far off for me to really capture.

Nice images of the Sandhill Cranes. The densities remind me of Bosque.

Thanks Morris. I think the count that day was around 20,000 Sandhills. I actually almost didn't post the field shot because I thought it looks too lightly populated.
nice set of pictures, michael. it looks like wheeler national wildlife refuge is going to be a place you visit often. i live in northwest indiana about 30 miles south of lake michigan. there are thousands of sandhill cranes that winter here. at wheeler refuge you do have alot more open water than we have up here. you should have a good assortment of other birds as well as milder winter temps. enjoy it as often as you can. thanks for sharing.
