p.1 #1 · Last Light and Lenticular Cloud over the Gore Range

Warm and cool tones just as the sun was setting on this peak as a lenticular cloud hovered above.

I appreciate your nice comment, thank you! It was cold out and I stayed well past this and then skied down in the dark, very worth it though!

Thanks so much Ross! I felt pretty lucky to catch it—a short window of light and the cloud hovering there was a gift.

Thanks, Jim — that genuinely made me smile this morning! It was one of those short-lived sunset moments where the light and that lenticular cloud just lined up perfectly. Shot this while ski touring up high and decided to stay later than I had anticipated. Really glad it had that kind of impact and I appreciate your comment! 🍻

Lovely light and great cloud!

(In my role as a longtime Outdoor Nerd, I am obligated to point out that it isn’t alpenglow if the light comes from the sun as it sets — technically alpenglow is what comes after the sun drops below the horizon or before it rises above it. I’ll go away now… ;-)

Haha, fair point Dan—and well played 😉
You’re absolutely right on the technical definition. In this case it was still warm sunset light rather than true post-sunset alpenglow. Appreciate the kind words on the image regardless!

I confess that I relearned that the hard way, too, when someone pointed out that one of my photographs with the word “alpenglow” in its title did not show alpenglow. ;-)

Oh yeah, been there too Dan. Nothing like a well-intentioned correction to keep us on our toes. All part of the process.
