The first photo is postcard-perfect! The second would be except for the fence post in the bottom right side. For whatever reason, it's the first thing my eye goes to when I look at the photo. That's not what you want people to look at when they look at a postcard or even an enlargement. At least that's my opinion for whatever that's worth.
Lovely shots for sure. If you removed the fence post in shot 2, it would be equally as magnificent as photo 1!

Yes I had your analysis before I posted the image. My thought was to leave it to provide something in the foreground to lock the depth, scale and emotion of the cold, snow and brilliant red barn.
Sometimes it works, many times it doesn't. I DO appreciate you recognizing that fact also!
