2009...3 months later I retired! Hooray!!! 40 years!
Located just south of Gettysburg along the Emmitsburg Road, the Codori Farm was the scene of extremely heavy fighting between Union and Confederate Armies during the Battle of Gettysburg July 1-3, 1863. Nicholas Codori bought the farm in 1854 and began improving it immediately, including the construction of its two story brick house; only to see it all become damaged on July 2 during a Confederate assault on Union skirmishers and then again the next day, July 3, 1863, during the famous “High Tide of the Confederacy: Pickett’s Charge.”

Beautiful photos Dan! I also really appreciate the story behind the historic buildings, very interesting.
Happy New Year Jeff!
I was a History major in college and taught US History for just 1 year. The Civil War period was my "speciality". I try to provide some context on the compositions I post regarding history.
Thanks!
Dan
Hard to envision this serene scene being the locale of those events.
My entire area is filled with history before we even became the United States Kent.
The slang phrase, "George Washington Slept Here" is actually a fact!
Antietam and Gettysburg are very close to me.
Thanks Kent!

Great images, Don. I am always amazed how many of the old farm buildings and barns in the US are well maintained and painted.

Having grown up in central PA, these images are very resonant for me. Every time I go back, though, I hate seeing how so many of those old barns have fallen into disrepair (or just fallen).

That is why I travel "the road less taken" to try and find these relics before they disappear from the landscape.
Luckily this is a "Historic Landmark" and probably escape the "axe" of progress.
Thanks "pc"!

Beautiful contrasting color.
The Codori barn is a beautiful in varying sunlight. It can be really red then sort of a "muddy" red in the shadows of sunlight!
Thanks Patrick.

Thanks Jim!
Actually I retired in 2009. Took a "Temp" 5 year job with the Dept of the Army@Arlington Natl Cemetery to straighten out the mass mis marking of graves and record keeping of a former Supervisor. who is now, or was, unemployed. Shame on him!
