p.1 #1 · Messenger Bag for Work, Camera, Laptop

Anyone have bags they love with checking out? Open to most suggestions but it has to be nice enough to wear with pants and a button down to work (bonus points if it can hold up to a very occasional suit). Usually a small mirrorless body and 1-3 lenses and a 14” laptop. I loved the Tenba Cooper Slim 13 but the laptop compartment was juuusst too small. The 15 DSLR was too bulky, and the 15 slim seems to have been vapor wear.

So, anything I should check out?

Defy (manufactures's name)
EPIC 48 HOUR BRIEFCASE / BALLISTIC NYLON
Other products on their website may also fit your needs.
I own two of their bags and they are exceptionally well made and will last for many years with minimal signs of wear. Defy is a great company. All products made in Chicago.

Some cool bags. A bit more than I was thinking but I can appreciate and be convinced to pay for quality. Lot of choices, will keep reviewing.

Timbuk2 or a search under messenger/commuter bags might give you more choices

I recently picked up the 13L Nomatic McKinnon Camera Messenger on sale at B&H.

It will carry an Apple 14" MBP and I've been able to stuff in a Canon R5II on a 28-70/2 plus 70-700/2.8 Z plus 135/1.8. The latter two only with short 1" metal hoods because the stock hoods are way too bulky. I didn't like the two supplied dividers and replaced them with a couple from the Shimoda DSLR divider kit. If your lenses are smaller than these, they will easily fit.

I usually prefer softer sided bags that wrap more around my body, as this one is pretty rigid. But I do like how easy it is to access gear without any flaps getting in the way, and that you can leave it fully unzipped for easy gear access without fear that the gear will fall out. The elastic retainer cord for the lid is a nice added touch. Not sure I'd pay full price for it though...

IMO this is a camera bag first and messenger second. With a full camera load plus laptop, there is not much space for peripherals, or pockets to organize them.

Thanks, looks like it’s back to full price but you make a good point anyway I’m probably looking for something that’s messenger bag first, camera bag second. BUT having used camera focused bags before I like the dividers, structure and organization that comes with a decent bag. Still it won’t be carrying large or heavy gear often.

When I used to travel for work and wanted to take a camera, I used a Peak Design Everyday Messenger. Looked good with the sport coat and carried the gear well.

Since you dress up for work then maybe like a Filson 24 Hour Tin Cloth Briefcase? Cotton based fabric looks better with wear 🙂

That may be the “default” choice, though some good alternatives too.

I don't know if it's the right size or price, but I got a Wotancraft Pilot 7L Canvas recently. They make one in leather that looks really nice and they also have larger sizes. It was more expensive than I'd ever paid for a shoulder bag before but I really do like it. It's been a great bag so far and a perfect size for me to go out with a camera and couple lenses.
