p.1 #1 · Latest Fisheye Lenses

Why do the manufacturers of recent fisheye lenses, mostly from China, seem to think a field of view greater than 180 degrees is a "feature"? It is a pain, as far as I am concerned, as you end up with unwanted elements in the frame, such as your fingers, the camera grip, your feet, tripod legs, etc.

I guess for astrophotography the excessive FoV may be useful, but only if you are pointing your camera mostly straight up. For the rest of us, not so much.

The manufacturers seem to mindlessly copy one another, or attempt to exceed the other. I wish they would go back to a usable 180 degrees, catering to practical use, rather than some useless spec.

Why? Because more is always better, right? Most of those low cost lenses are targeted at video, VR and drone usage. The handful of first party, mirrorless mount, AF fisheyes are all 180.
