How common is the drop shipping format on Fred Miranda forums? I'm interested in purchasing an item from another user on this forum who has hundreds of positive feedback, but doesn't actually own the item they're selling. They claim it will be shipped directly from an authorized retailer to the buyer with a receipt in their name.
I couldn't find any more information on these types of transactions and hoping you guys can help, thank you!
Update 01/06/2026: Went ahead with a F&F payment and got the camera body as expected a little over a week later.
I would not do that. If the receipt is for them then there may not be a warranty or other rights conferred to you. It's like buying a used item if you are not buying from an authorized reseller.
The receipt is in the buyer’s name so the warranty applies. He’s just a sales rep for a camera store. Not much different than buying online from a store.
Feedback looks good but I'm always skeptical when someone tries to offload communication to texting or says don't message them on PayPal.

This seems plausible and I had asked them for more details that could include this. But they haven't responded so far. There's no reason they wouldn't be able to share what store they work for right?
Reads like a description of non-commercial, but nevertheless commercial, re-sellers here on FM. When I see such offers, I look at the # of sales posts v. Number photography (ya, know, from real photographers) posts credited on FM. E.g., if said non-commercial seller has a very large # of posts, several years of membership here, and their posts are are more than 90% FS adds, it seems obvious to me what kind of non-commercial seller they are. Just sayin’
