No EFCS for the SL3. Daft. Stupid. Annoying. Affects image quality.

No additional functions for left dial so still useless.

Other than that seems like a decent update.

I know right? still no EFCS. since it still hasn't appeared in M11 (which IMO needs it more to reduce shutter shock) I don't have my hopes up for SL3 having it.

I like the new clean UI I hope they update the M11 with this new UI.

This is very exciting for AF on the Q3. Coming from Sony, the Q3 tracking af is abysmal. I rarely use af because it’s so inconsistent, and when I do use it, I use the focus point method and don’t allow the camera to do any tracking. When I am able to update I will definitely test this out as it has not been good for photos of the little ones who don’t stay still.

I did see in the YouTube video comments that there are some bugs though. Some are saying that portrait photos no longer show full screen
...Show more

Have you had a chance to check if any of these bugs/issues exist on your Q3 camera after v4.0 update?

FWIW, If you or anyone else finds some strange things happening on their camera after a firmware update and not an intended feature design change, sometimes resetting the camera can clean up some oddities after a firmware update--sometimes😎

Yes, I can confirm all these on my Q3 43, even after a reset and setting everything up from scratch.

Another annoyance, you can no longer define what functions you want accessible from each function button individually, you can only set up available functions in one menu that apply to all buttons and the thumb wheel.

Otherwise it’s been a great update, much better AF and start up times and for the love of god no more black bars on the LCD bottom obscuring your view.

I travel back home today, but I’ll report back when I have tested. From what I’m reading these seem to be bugs everyone is experiencing. I will likely still update simply to see how much better AF gets.

I just scanned through the LUF forum and found there a few comments about these issues on Q3 v4.0 cameras as well.

Finally back home. I updated the firmware on my Q3. I did some quick tests and yes, the eye tracking AF is improved. I had my son be himself and I tried to get a few shots and like 75% were in focus (before the update it was like a 10% hit rate with moving kids). The firmware notes do mention that they have improved it via AI which is why Sony’s latest cameras are so good, so that’s a good sign.

I encountered the peaking bug. I thought I was being smart by assigning a function button to turning it on and off, that way I just activate it when in MF. Unfortunately I learned that when you go to review an image, it automatically applies peaking to that, and when you back out of review, the peaking stays on. Definitely seems like a bug they’re gonna have to fix since I do not want peaking when reviewing my images.

Clicking the middle button in the circle on the back of my Q343 removes/adds the peaking. Still annoying but that helps with reviewing for me.

I’ll second that. For me, this represents a loss in functionality along with loss of the favorites menu. I do like the new interface. Still needs some tweaking regarding Q series IMHO. Cannot comment on SL series as I’ve no experience. Perhaps individual threads needed for Q and SL?

Pretty impressive update overall. It seems like a whole new camera. I don’t expect this level of firmware update from other manufacturer.

My Q3 28 only zooms when I press that button. When I try to assign peaking on/off in photo review mode it doesn’t give me that option.

Pretty impressive upgrade though not without some glitches. My Q3 43 no longer shows vertically shot images in vertical format Leica is apparently aware of this and working to get it resolved.

Hey.

Wanted to follow up with anyone who is using the Q3’s with the new update. So far the most annoying thing for me has been the peaking on when reviewing photos. I finally found the shortcut in the function menu that will help with this issue.

Take a photo, press the play button to review the photo. Choose any function button that you prefer, and long press it. Scroll to the “Toggle info levels” shortcut and set that to the button. Now, when you are reviewing the image, press that function button u til it cycles to a version without peaking overlayed on the image. As long as you don’t press it again, it will stay that way the next time you go to review the image.

Seems like you can also now accommodate more Leica Looks in camera than before, though I forget how many you could previously stored.

I had a little dance with resetting Bluetooth and Leica Fotos multiple times to get the renewal of the connection, post update, but otherwise smooth update.

Multi-shot on SL3 ... 241 MP

Question: On the SL2-S, multi-shot mode tapped out a 1 sec exposure max. Made long exposures a no-go for multi-shot. Does anyone know what the max exposure time is for multi-shot on the SL3 or the SL3-S?

Prior to v4 it was all the stock looks, plus you could add up to 6 of the newer additional looks via the app. I think you get the same number of total looks in v4, except now they let you delete some of the stock looks that come with the camera like Vivid and B&W HC.

I don' know much about long exposure setup. But poking around in the menus on the SL3 v4.0, I see 8s with the SL3 in Mult-Shot and manual modes vs 1s for the SL2 Multi-Shot mode.

Thanks.

8s is better than 1s ... but, still might be a bit short for some things. I was just surprised by the limitation. Might be related to cumulative heat build up / noise of 1s x 8 Exposures = 8s cumulative, now being 8s x 8 Exposures = 64s cumulative, with limitations on opportunity for heat dissipation.

FWIW, upon further inspection, SL3 = 8s max for Multi-Shot "Tripod" mode and 1s max for Multi-Shot "Handheld" mode.
