Weather is dicey here in Ohio now. My luck a new lens arrives and I want to test it out before I leave on a trip. So a forced visit to shoot the basic sea gulls and hang out by the water near a lighthouse that offers plenty of seagull action.

Well when hundreds of gulls begin to scatter and make a racket it usually means a predator is in the area .......... yup

In less than ideal conditions some of my first impressions with the new Sony 400-800 zoom

Big crops, low light slower shutter but honestly one heck of performing lens!

Looks like you got a good copy Karl, nice samples and it does well on your A1. Congrats bud!

Can't wait to see your SEO's with this beast. Hopefully the new and improved A/F will be better for the low light when they seem to always come out to play.

Completely agree that the Sony 400/800 is a fantastic lens for birding/wildlife. Slow, according to the specs, but paired with the latest Sony bodies, it's a game changer.
Wouldn't leave home without it!
