Do they make a 1.4x? Those are more practical. And why is it so white for Nikon?

Nothing about a 1.4X, but yeah, Viltrox dont have white lenses as is. Looks like a Sony TC

I wonder if Viltrox is going to release a super-tele in the near future?

Same thing went through my mind.
Viltrox is on a mission lately, I wouldn't be surprised if they move into that game soon.

Many years ago Tamron and Kenko made their 7 elements converters in white. They they made many mounts. I believe at that time Canon may have been the only great white lens producer.

Canon was more of a beigeish/greenish white back then. Minolta and later Sony were more white. Current Canon is more like other whites now, but maybe a bit darker than the Vilitrox. If they are selling a TC in Z mount it should be black. I suppose some lenses/TCs will be covered with camo or some other material that hides the silly bright white.

Given the cost of the big teles I'm not seeing a great appeal for a protruding TC just to save a few bucks.
What Viltitrox should do is make a Z 1.7x, something Nikon does not have.

Will it mount to any lens? Or just the ones with the special Nikon TC bayonet flange?

I’d buy one to mount a 105MC (with a tube if needed). 2:1 200mm would be great for bugs, even with the macro focal length loss.

It has a protruding element, so it will almost certainly only work with the same lenses the Nikon TC works with.

I just bought a Z100-400 tele from an FM'er here and hadn't even received it when I was looking on B&H and saw a Viltrox 2.0 TC on sale for $ 224. I figured if it was no good I could return it so I ordered it.

I was in Oregon for medical reason so a received it there, saving me tax even. I hooked it up to my Z8 and new lens. It was a very tight attache to the lens.

Enclosed are pics of the TC plus some sample shots I took. Problem I have is I've never used a Nikon made TC so I have no experience as to what to expect in terms of sharpness and usability. And I obviously have no experience with the combination of this TC and my new Z100-400 lens.

There were no birds or cats or any moving animal, so I just shot features I could see from an apartment complex.

First two images are of the TC itself and then sets of images, the 2nd generally being a significant crop

It seems to me that, while difficult to use, it is worth keeping for the price. Curious what others think.

Thanks

Dave

A few more

Picture of bark detail is 800mm FX cropped from 45MP to 12MP. I wouldn't say the background looks very good here.

The next 2 shots are pairs, both @800mm in DX mode with 2nd image of pair cropped some

Hoping for opinions of the quality (or lack thereof) that you see. Thanks

Dave

As noted in the previous post I was hoping to see comments about perceived quality of this relatively unknown TC.

When I got home and could set my tripod up near a hummingbird feeder, I got some pictures I like and I'm definitely keeping this since it "only" cost me $ 224.

The following shots were all taken close enough that I could have used my Z100-400 lens without the 2X converter, I know, but this entire exercise was to try and ascertain the 2x's quality.

The first shot was with lens set at 200mm for a overall 400mm shot from 2.1 meter's away

The second and third shots are of Anna's & Rufous Hummingbirds at 800mm from 4 meter's away

Fourth shot is same as the third with the feeder "removed"

There has been further cropping in all the shots

It's been fun learning to use new lens and TC on birds. Just a beginner here!
