Please stop doing this. I see many members that continually reply to their own posts, thanking each comment separately and artificially increasing the number of replies shown in the forum listing. Some are individuals that are promoting their tour services and others like to see their post near the top of the list for a long time. This is annoying and rude forum behavior. For example, some image posts may show 40 replies with 20 of them from the OP! One 'tour leader' has been keeping his post up high for over two months by doing this. Sorry, but the images didn't garner that many comments.

Pease be kind to others here and let each post live out its normal life. I'm sure your ego will recover.

I don't do that for any of the reasons above Jeffrey. I like to acknowledge to a poster that I appreciate them adding comments....good, bad or indifferent.

I was here long before there was a "like" selection. And so have you!
Your point is a valid one.

Have a great Thanksgiving! and THANKS again for you know what! My local Wegmans has them now.

I have no idea where this is happening (Presentation Boards?), but maybe ask Fred.

Mostly on image boards, but more lately on the Nature Forum.

It is pretty easy to see who does it the most and why they do it.

It does not exactly provide credible feedback when you have a 'LIKE' button, but no "DISLIKE' button. I guess everyone likes every image that is posted.

There are also a few members that cross-post to two forums for similar reasons, even though the images are not that relevant to the second forum.

The popular concept of being 'liked' in our society is not only silly and useless, but it has destroyed the opportunity for anyone to benefit and learn from true constructive criticism. It is too bad that FM only offers a 'like' choice, when many other discussion forums now give a choice of numerous emoji type responses from dislike to haha to WTF. Of course, young people couldn't survive and would turn into social introverts if they didn't receive massive amounts of likes from doing mediocre things. When I was young, they said to me if you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all. How utterly ridiculous is that? How can anyone learn or improve what they do when they are constantly getting accolades for being dumb or underperforming? But, of course everyone is special these days. Even those that are not even close to being special in any way (whatever that even means!). I would not be the photographer I am today if I did not ask my mentors to critique me harshly and realistically when appropriate during my learning days. It was the part of my photo education that I wanted the most. In today's popular 'photo workshop' culture, very little is actually taught. During the critique sessions, you never hear any instructor say that a participants image is just not cutting it and should be tossed and try again. So the instructor brings it into Lightroom and starts cropping in various ways and applying strong adjustments in order to 'save' it instead of explaining why it isn't worthy. THAT would be a more impactful education. But society doesn't allow anyone to hurt anyone else's feelings these days. You might get sued! If students today were educated in such a fashion, a few more would excel beyond the current low standards of acceptability while the remaining masses would shrivel and die from the lack of 'likes'. And there would be more better young (and old) photographers.

Fred, please give us a dislike button!

Would the "Dislike" button have to have a "reason for the dislike" posted before the "Dislike" showed Jeffrey?
I would "2nd that vote".
If someone does not "like" my post, PLEASE tell me why!

No Dislike. It will cause more strife and ugliness.

OK then we should eliminate the like feature. It's really useless. Anyone who wants real feedback should get it in an actual comment Yes, the kind where someone actually has to think of what to say and make the incredible effort to type it out. The horror!!

I'm not against no likes either. IIRC the like was designed to reduce clutter of all the thumbs up or +1 replies.

As long as their are 'Like' and/or/or both 'Dislike' buttons you will not get honest feedback unless there is anonymity.

In case you have not noticed, there are little 'Like' cliques where if you give me a 'Like' I should give you one in return. I have even had one member berate me for not giving him as many 'Likes' as he gave me. There are also a few members that 'Like' and praise every single image posted for the same reason.

On the other hand, the Critique Forum does not seem that popular. I wonder why.

^^^^ I do NOT mind constructive criticisms to my photography. You see an issue for you, please let me know. I shoot for my pleasure 1st. If I feel a composition might bring a "connection" to another photographer, GREAT! I post it. I consider all comments to be valid whether I "like" it or not!
