Are you using the R5II? If so, you can program the DOF preview button (or whatever that button on the body next to the lens is called, you can reach it with the finger on your shutter hand) to switch back and forth between crop modes. That's how mine is set up, on push goes to crop, push again and back to full.

I'll check it out. I thought it still required a confirmation to activate rather than a single button press. But maybe that was with one of my previous/older cameras. The other problem now is not enough customizable buttons as I already use the DOF button for other functions, depending on the circumstances. But assigning it to crop might still be workable.

Not necessarily a firmware wish, but I'd like a diopter lock. Sick of it randomly rolling off out of focus.

An eyepiece cover, gets dirty all the time.

A true one-touch photo/video like on the R5 which gave you full access to video controls.

A 1.6 crop one-button control. Mistakes happen in fast action situations.

If we're doing firmware wishes, in addition to the above I'd like the viewfinder/rear display option like in the R1 where taking the camera away from your eye only turns on the rear display if you press a button, like the menu or image review.

I don't like the auto switch between rear display and EVF as I find there's always a slight lag, so I have the camera set to manually switch between the two with the press of a button. This is OK, but the R1's implementation is nicer as I don't need to manually switch between the EVF

I'll agree with you on the diopter adjustment. I much preferred the Nikon pro bodies with the need to pop out the adjustment before it would turn. Never had an issue with those. Thise little thumbwheel adjustments are a real pain and as you pointed out easily misadjusted. The 1.6x crop on my R5MkII is set for the DOF button in front so easy to hit to turn it on and off. Love that.
