It seems to work with dust on film when copying with a digital camera. Probably old news to many, but new to me.

Also noticed that in the release notes, have not got to try yet.

My LR advertised it to me last night so I tried it. The stupid AI didn't detect very much of the dust/hair on my sample, with no way to adjust the parameters of the detection process. Manually selecting the rest of the undetected dust in LR was a lot slower than my usual Spot Healing Brush workflow in PS.

For film with excessive dust or other similar flaws, I use the PS plugin SRDx. When you use it with layers to isolate problem areas (sky, etc.) it can be quite effective.

Thanks for the heads up! I continue to use scanners for my film digitization - I have fully migrated from SilverFast to Vuescan. Vuescan is really the better option both for install and operation. Vuescan also removes dust from color negatives very well.

Perhaps this brings up a question. How do we provide feedback regarding this new feature? If we want it to work better with film copying, we will have to do our part and provide feedback.

It works really well in my testing, a great quality of life feature add. They are slowly adding in dependent features like this that sink the monthly/yearly subscription fee hooks in, but I'm SO happy to see them consistently improving the product based on our feedback.

How do you access/find this feature? I am using the LR subscription model.

In my LR classic subscription on PC, it's in Remove > Distraction Removal > Dust in Develop.

Thanks! I don't see that under my Distraction Removal as an option, so I will try to update my LR Classic.

I just receive two rolls of Vision3 D50 back from a lab that I have never used and unlike Citizen Photo (which does not develop ECN-2) the negatives were shipped unsheathed in a paper envelope and were covered with dust. I can say conclusively that the only way this feature could be considered useful was manually eliminating dust and that was impossible. So, no this feature isn’t useful in present form to me. I need to find a way to report this failing to Adobe. Oh, won’t be using this lab again.

At least for me, in LR Classic on PC, a small 'Provide feedback' link appears at the bottom left of the Dust panel AFTER you check 'Apply'. I gave them a piece of my mind. Half the time it say's 'could not detect any dust' when there is plenty visible to the naked eye.

Yeah... I tried it. Worked great at removing sensor spots i.e spots that were on my Z7's sensor, but did nothing to remove dust spots from the film scanned with my Z7.

Insert sad trombone sound effect here --->

I found this at the top of the Adobe forum thread about this feature.

”Please note that scanned negatives are not in the scope of this feature at this time."

Lame

Come on man…isn’t that one of the “hands on” processes people strive for when shooting film? 😊

I have yet to have a dust issue prior to this last roll of film. I do my copy work in highly filtered air, so dust isn’t an issue. If dust is an issue with your lab, try Citizen Photo in Portland. I’ve been quite happy with their C-41 and E6 development and sleeve. Prices are more than reasonable and I’m able to scan directly from the uncut sleeved negatives. I visited their location a couple of weeks ago and they appear to be a high volume shop with a passion for film. Now, I need to clean my contaminated scanning setup.

It is a bummer but still is a very handy feature for digital images and film scanned w a digital camera that may not have a perfectly clean sensor.
My Z7 never leaves the house and somehow still has a few dust spots on the sensor.

M6 Vision3 50D and thirty minutes of spot removal after I once again cleaned the negative. So, much of this was in the film and could not be brushed, or blown off. Many likely due to bubbles. Is that due to insufficient agitation?
