This male Anna's Hummingbird, along with thousands of others, will remain on Vancouver Island through the winter, come rain, snow, and freezing temperatures. They will feed mostly on insects, feeders put out by humans, sap from trees, and any nectar that is available from winter flora.
The Great Blue Herons are common here and hunt for their prey both in fresh and salt water environments.
