I’ve got it and love it but I held out for years because of the built quality and physical controls/features are sub-par. It is also limited being a 3rd party lens.
The Canon lens is interesting to me because it fast, modern, and well-featured for a current lens in their line-up. The IQ isn’t quite up to their L-series (from what I hear). Personally, I wish the 50mm GM had been a 45mm just to diversity the Sony range a bit instead of selling three fast, expensive 50mm lenses.

Does the Samyang get you the photos you want?
Would a Sony 45mm f1.8 make photos possible which aren't possible with the Samyang? In which regard?
Do you have an A1 or A9 series camera (because the 3rd party limitation is only an issue if you shoot with one of these)?

We are already seeing these MF prime lenses produced by Chinese manufacturers some of which some are quite interesting (super fast lenses). Once they succeed to implement Auto Focus (probably within 2-3 years) we are going to see a flood of Chinese AF prime lenses in the market of a wide variety of sorts: fast rather large and heavy, fast yet compact, slow and super compact. The image quality is going to vary too: some not so good (like this new fast Canon lens) but some to be unexpectedly and remarkably good. IMO, Sony should now put their efforts more into zooms or specialty lenses which require higher technological expertise and experience than primes hence not being within the reach of Chinese manufacturers for another couple of years.

There are quite a few more here. Or is this a list of your own 50s?

What is not going to be within the reach of many photographers 'for another couple of years' is the recent history (via cine), technical expertise (you have no idea, few do) and sheer scale of the Chinese manufacturers output (growing and diversifying fast every month).
To which we can add amazing value-to-performance ratios, glass choices and rendering styles aimed at beautiful imagery as a counterbalance to mere optical perfection (the cine background).
You are in good company however, many such cases. I first thought this was a 2023 post. It's quite a special time now. The establishment will have to lift their game and accept pricing reality just to compete in a market they thought they owned.

In short, am I the only one who would love to see the Canon lens made by Sony?
Having seen enough photos taken with the 1.2/45 lens, I've come to the conclusion that I don't want something like that from Sony after all.
