p.6 #1 · Small Compact Camera A7C2 vs A7CR vs others

For the OP, I would try to make sure if you go the Sony route, know what lenses you want to pair it with first and see if you can still maintain the same compact size. You can use camerasize.com to compare camera and lens combinations. If you go the Sony route and are ok with 24mmf2.8, 35mmf2.8, 40mmf2.5, etc., that can be a viable option.

Quick Summaries:

fuji x100vi: I havent used it, but ive researched it to some degree when it was super inflated in price. Overall it seems like its nice if you know you are a fan of Fuji recipes at 35mm. It has leaf shutter so its quiet in many settings.

A7cII/a7cR: Only briefly used the a7cr, but still need to experience it more. The mechanical shutter sound (efcs) can be off-putting for some. I havent thoroughly tested the rolling shutter, but I do think its mainly noticeable in fast panning motion or if you are taking a photo of a moving object like trains. Don't quote me on that though. I've seen rolling shutter with my other sony cameras with higher MP in those scenarios.

Rx1rii / Rx1riii: I have the rx1rii still, and its a great 35mm camera, especially with the sonnar lens. Some people don't find it as amazing though, but I really love the rendering of it at times. It just doesnt have IBIS and battery life is weak (idk about rx1r3). The raw files are great for post processing, especially bringing up shadows at times.

Leica Q series: I think the lens protrudes too much. I've owned it and preferred the rx1r2 over it.

Ricoh GrIII: Great small actually "pocketable" camera. Can have dust issues as the front lens can suck in dust when opening/closing, and theres no front filter. Need to use the taped on filter or lens covers for dust prevention. If you pixel peep, the quality might just be okay, but if you just look at composition, its great. Theres also existing ricoh recipes which are nice (similar to Fuji).

gfx100rf: can be overkill and body might be too big compared to others. I love its image quality though.

Sony a6#00 aps-c cameras: If you are okay with aps-c cameras and the focal lengths (can't be potentially as wide as full frame), then there are some good ones like the a6700. I personally would rather go a7cr and use aps-c mode for future proofing.

Nikon Z mirrorless bodies: Can use sony lenses with megadap adapter. I havent used nikon yet, but I was close with almost trying out the ZR for video. Its just nice that it can use sony lenses (near native performance), BUT it might not compensate well for some of the distortions/vignette of certain sony lenses.

Fuji aps-c: Im not familiar with these at all.

Lumix S9: I like wide lenses, and the L mount wide lenses tended to be big hence I skipped this. Looks pretty nice for an entry level camera. I think there are 4k 60p video limitations (like crop or something).

Sigma FP/L: Compact, but I think theres a bunch of inconvenient issues (like not as good focusing, etc.)
