Wondering what happens in daily life of tariff implementations. I recently (6-7 weeks ago) bought 2 TTArtisan lenses without any impact or extra charges of any kind.

I recently bought a Sirui lens that was shipped from China. Before it was sent, I asked the seller about any potential tariffs, and they assured me it was already included. As promised, there were no additional charges.

You can always ask for the DDP option from a seller; where they are responsible for the tariff costs should they be or become a part of the transaction.

In the past few weeks I've gotten Viltrox & TTArtisan lenses, and a Sunwayfoto l-bracket direct from China. A used Nikkor lens from a dealer in Japan. Also a Wotancraft bag from Taiwan. All with no tariff. Not what I expected.

Not sure if this is at all applicable, but I ordered some camera skins from Taiwan, and was charged a tariff after the fact when I received a legitimate text from FedEx well after the package was delivered to me. I had to pay up.

Sorry everyone but I've ordered from China so no doubt tariffs will be in full effect. Also, don't get in the same line as me at the grocery store or gas station, because I always pick the worst.

That's interesting. I just received a LIfeGuard skin from Taiwan, several says ago, (delivered by FedEx) and there has been no mention of duties or tariffs.
I have purchased two lenses and some misc. equipment from China in the last three weeks with no tariffs. I'm amazed that they all clear Customs in a day, so total shipping time has been 1.5 weeks or less. In past years, it has taken longer.

Bought a $25 blind box toy from the maker in China directly w no additional duty fee. So then USPS was supposed to ask me for the duty bc the sender side didn't pay. My guess is that Customs and USPS are just doing whatever unseriously and letting most things slide. Package clearing in 2.5 hours means no one cared to check anything. 🙂↔️

A smile makes its way across my face with every lens I buy direct from China, quite a few of late. The honesty and efficiency and communication is unprecedented in my experience. Starve the middle man! Adopt UPI, like India has - no transaction costs.

They billed me 15 days after delivery. Not immediately.

If you want to buy direct, ask the vendor to 'help you out'. Very common dealing with China and India. They know the game, and just want to do business. Much to be preferred over domestic vendors, actually - here, anyway.

Yes, FedEx will bill you about 2 weeks after the shipment. I bought 2 lenses from Japan around 2 months ago and was billed approximately 10% for each one, well after delivery. On the other hand, DHL will put the shipment on hold until the tariffs have been paid.

Just double check HTS estimations to get an idea of possible billing. And yes, billing can be delayed depending on which courier does the stateside leg. Usually for camera lens stuff it's anywhere from 0-15%. It depends on how the seller also declares the item description and valuation of course.
The only time I got pretty destroyed was when I ordered pants from France and the duty was 100%. Never again.

I thought that the tariffs will be paid by "other countries". At least that's what I was told and sold.
Bought a few items recently from AliExpress and the prices clearly stated that it is all inclusive including the tariffs. The items included a Panasonic MFT lens.
EBay is a different story and it is a hit or miss with tariffs and I see prices from Japanese sellers lower than before - likely due to the tariff situation.
