I’m currently on YT watching shorts (no ads)
A clip popped up of a RF 75-300mm 4-5.6
News to me!!!
I then read it has no IS at all and the front element rotates 😳
What!!
Is this for real??
Why in gods name has canon released such a lens? Why
Edit :
And No control ring
What a piece of shit!!!
Wow - I can’t actually believe they really went ahead and built this … Too funny 🤣🤣

Canon (along with most other manufacturers) has long offered a few less expensive lenses that often appeal to newbies and to people who don't need the high end stuff.

Nothing new here.
Right. Just because forum users aren't the market for this lens doesn't mean there's no market for it.
All you lot sticking up for this lens…why??
I’ve just watched Christopher Frosts review…
My god!! It is horrendous.
Why would anyone want to go to the expense of buying a RF body and this lens… so £7-800 outlay to get soft (extremely) and blurred ( no IS) with a nice dollop of CA chucked in too??
It is shite, what’s even worse is you hardcore canon fan bois defending the release!!!
I had really good luck using my EF 75 300 III, regardless of poor reviews, including Christopher Frost's.
It is certainly better than nothing if you can get one for not much in a bundle. Just gotten some really good photos using mine
Purple fringing is easy to clean up imo, easier than more recent lenses requiring computational imaging, keep ss up like we had to before IS. Almost all lenses better stopped down

Jesus wept!!
Why so much excitement from you on a lens you don’t want. Seems like I heard the same BS from you on other more expensive lenses. Seems to me all you want is attention and periodically post here to get that attention.

I was just thinking the same thing...
Maybe he's only here posting because he got banned from the DPReview forums?
I bought Nikon's old screw-driven AF 70-300 mm f/4-5.6 lens for my Nikon D7500 camera, even though I think I had excellent AF-P DX 70-300 mm at the time. Cos it was cheap to buy, and it turned out to be a great portrait lens, especially with my kids. It kinds of soften the skin and a bit of character, which I liked.
I just think modern lenses nowadays are too critical for portrait shooting. Now that I have the Canon R6 II, think I should try this lens...

Buy a used EF 70-300L done and dusted.
I have it
Plus the nano version and 55-250is stm
Great lenses
Hence my scorn for canon rereleasing a dud from the late 90’s
It was utter crap back then and looks like nothing has changed with this RF version

No, it was Canon Rumours I got banned from, that’s a few years ago mind - was actually nothing to do with canon ( or any brand) guy got personal and I told him where to go!!. I did join DP Review but I didn’t like the forum interface… was tedious at best. AFAIK I’m still a member?? But no idea what my login details are 🤣👍🏻

What did you get banned for? Because I enjoy your rants, they add some entertainment to a forum that's mostly super tranquil these days.
