That looks remarkably similar to a Minolta AF-C I used to own:
Cute, tiny first gen AF camera. The fatal flaw being it would only take a pic if focus was confirmed - but focus very often was not confirmed and there was no manual overide!
My new copy arrived today and first impression is that the film advance feels a bit different, more clicky. I also think the pressure plate might be a bit more stiff than on the previous models.
I will have to test with film to see if it still overlaps frames. Might take a while before I have results - work and awful weather on the weekend are getting in the way..

Also check to see if your exposure read out matches the scene. You can do that w/o taking pics.

OK, just noticed something. This could be a very significant tell RE: flare issues.

Looks like a new baffle? Do you notice anything in the serial number that could hint at a new batch? Unfortunately I didn’t write down the serial from my first one and the new one currently has film loaded.
And how does your film advance feel compared to the old one - any change?

Yup. New baffle. I wonder if what I was seeing was internal reflections. If that is fixed this takes most of the bummer out of this camera for me. I can deal with the meter, the irregular advance even, but I need to know I won't always deal with veiling flare. I need some decent output here.
New serial begins with BF, old one BE, so maybe alphabetical change from E to F?
Film advance has the same resistance. I went back to the video of my first copy and it sounds the same too (same number of clicks). I've finished a roll of B&W I will process here shortly. I did a bunch of test shots in scenarios that should indue flare with and without this $10 hood. Time to get the HC110 syringe out.

So, you think it’s safe to purchase one now? Should be problem free? Was thinking about the silver version.
Yes, well, the meter is still off. lol.
We need to get DeadWolfBones to chime in.
However, mine seems to be off consistently about two whole stops. I've tested this a few times in as controlled an environment as possible. The camera wants to over expose by two stops to I'm either rating 100 ISO file as 400 or plugging in -2 on the exposure comp.

Are you going to keep it or ask for a replacement because of the metering?

(sigh) I think I am going to keep it. Do you want to give it a spin?
Consider if you ever think about selling it in the future, how the exposure meter being off would greatly effect it's value.
I steer clear of any cameras with that description.
That's a very kind offer but I think I'll pass in case something else breaks when I use it!

So here is the thing about the 2 stops over exposure.... I think it's by design. I've read numerous comments about others copies doing the same thing, and in going back to my 1st one I think it was doing the same thing (I had several frames with camera shake and it took me this long to realize why).
It's frustrating and it makes me want to strangle the person who decided on this as I suspect it's the same person who thought it needed a stupid inspiring quote in papyrus font on top.
I was just out with my new copy and it too overexposes by 2 stops.
Not sure this is on purpose, I don’t think my first copy did that. Negatives certainly didn’t look like it and I also had some that were underexposed due to backlighting.
I‘ll wait to see if frames still overlap or not and will decide then whether I want to keep it. Probably not. The exposure compensation dial was a nice addition to this camera but because the metering is off I have to basically always keep it at -2 EV..
Sadly it seems the MC-A is still not in a state where it should be sold to consumers :/
