I have the 50mm 1.8, 50mm 1.4 VCM and also the 35mm 1.8, but I am still interested. If it is nice and light I might still buy it. If it is the size and weight of the 50mm 1.4 VCM then I will pass.
Wouldn't it be better to just get the RF 50/1.2 instead of all those lesser lenses? I'm not seeing that the 45/1.2 will be as good. If you mostly do videos needs may vary.

Based on the rumoured price point, the 45 will likely be an optically imperfect 'character' lens. Great if that's what you want and it would offer an alternative option to the existing 35 and 50mm lenses.

Character wide open, a razer stopped down a smidge... I'm down for that given how compact it promises to be.

Just what the world has been waiting for. May as well buy a Lensbaby

Based on your 'love' for the EF 50/1.2, I'm guessing the RF 45/1.2 won't be a B&H 1:01am first day of release purchase? Or it will, just for old time's sake?

EBH
Not everyone can just buy the most expensive gear and run with it. Some are unwilling to go the whole way on it, too.
The "45mm" is another story, though. If the comparison to the EF 50mm f/1.2 is true, it'll be comparatively soft and have tons of aberrations for those who prefer this kind of thing and call it "character". It'll surely be cheaper than the 50/1.2L, but not cheap in absolute terms, either.

My first reaction to that quote was that it'll be something like the RF 50/1.8 lens wide open, just at f/1.2.
I don't see this as a bad thing, since the lens should very quickly sharpen up when stopped down. And hopefully the focus shift that was seen in the EF 50/1.2L isn't seen here.
Also, aside from the price, the compactness is a tremendous feature. For those of us that mostly practice photography while traveling this lens is just about perfect, on paper!
Typical Canon. With Canon you only need to upgrade every 10 or so years IMO.
Problem is with these products they have stopped Sony and Nikon from innovating.
No, but I think EB-1's reply was just pushing gkinard1952's buttons because he's usually very critical about Canon, yet for some reason is still a Canon shooter (apparently trapped in the system due to the uneconomical cost to switch).
It seems to me the 45/1.2 is more a response to Nikon's 'cheap' and imperfect 35/1.4 character lens.

If it is, well, I think I'd rather have 45/1.2 on either/any mount natively. I don't need more resolution wide-open, but faster exposures are always welcome especially in such a small package.
