My switchover to Nikon is complete, so I'll be lurking more in the Nikon group going forward. It feels like going back to school, learning the vastly different ergonomics and control logic, but I'm enjoying it immensely.
I have a feeling I'll be back to Sony sooner or later (ie when an A1ii or equivalent can be had for about $3000).
But until then, I'll be watching from the other side of the looking glass...
I think Sony’s A1ii / A9iii has an edge over the Z9 and R1
However with the Z8 at $4k and the R5 II at $4.1k, Sony has no "fast" camera at this price range since the A1 II is sitting at $7k and the A1 is at 6.2k. Even the A9ii is $4.5k and its not very compelling in 2025
That said, Sony seems to sell every A1 II they can make, and it’s still in short supply, so you can’t really fault them for keeping the price where it is.
Maybe Sony will pull a rabbit out of its hat with the A7V, we will see.

Enjoy your Nikon adventure! I’m sure it will tickle that adventurous spirit that many of us hold inside.
I acquired D800E’s when they were first released some years ago. Having 36mp to play with was a real game changer, for me, at the time. I then moved on to D810’s and D850’s. Having spent so much time in the Nikon ecosystem, I do miss it. I have thought about acquiring a used Z8 and adapting my Sony glass, but the difference in cover-glass thickness when shooting wider angles keeps me from doing it. Perhaps, the issue is not that serious, however(?).
I expect that you will be staying with Nikon for some time. Since Nikon glass cannot be adapted to Sony, going from Nikon to Sony will be a bit more challenging than your transition from Sony to Nikon. In any case, we’ll miss your contributions on the Sony Forum and there is always the chance that I will join you on the Nikon Forum if I go to dual systems (to take advantage of some unique Nikon lenses). Good luck!

I haven’t tried myself but the new version of the Megadap is reported to significantly improve wide angle image quality.

I believe they finally got the thickness of the adapter correct, so image degradation from that cause is resolved. But the sensor stack differences between Nikon and Sony still come into play. I tested my 14mm GM on the new Megadap and found that the corners/edges were noticeably degraded unless I stopped down to ƒ4.

Plus the fact that used Z8s can be had from just under $3k. At that price it’s pretty much unbeatable.
