I had no idea this product existed! Thanks so much for mentioning it.
Taking the ND filter on and off my RX1RII is the major pain point with that camera for me and I think this will basically solve it. Thanks!

I haven't found a good thumb grip yet, but were you able to get your Haoge square hood to fit over a filter? Mine doesn't seem to clear it.
That said, because of the 1/2000s mechanical shutter limitation at f2 and needing to put on an ND filter on the camera regularly, I opted to skip the lens hood and just go with a set of magnetic filters (K&F Concept 49mm magnetic UV and 3-stop ND8 filters).
I have the magnetic UV filter screwed into the lens and leave it on there all the time for general protection and magnetically attach the ND/lens cap when needed. Depending on the lighting condition, when I take the camera out of my bag, I either remove both the ND8/lens cap together in one motion or remove just the lens cap leaving the ND on. I just magnetically attach whatever I took off when I put the camera back in my bag. It's been pretty convenient and I haven't had any issues with vignetting so far. Only downside is that you obviously can't really use a lens hood with this setup....Show more →
IDK I understand the filter and the lens hood as necessary under certain conditions. But everything else — thumb, hand grip would seem to make the camera just as big as the A7CR defeating the whole point of it.
I just got mine yesterday and I’m a big 6’4” with fairly large hands, and I seem to have no problems using it with just a wrist strap. That said, I do like how those accessories enhance the look of it, and I may eventually add them —but certainly not out of necessity
Beauty of the RX1R is that you can use it as is and have a very small camera. With the IDS grip and thumb rest, it is still much smaller than the a7cr.
With the sony grip, it becomes a bit bigger and very comfortable for longer shoots. I like that version given I have larger hand and the case provides a comfortable place for my little finger.
With the A7c series, you cannot make it smaller, especially if you want a 35mm f2 lens.
The versatility is key here.

Even with the accessories... it is still MUCH smaller than the A7CR.
To me the grip, and thumb grip make the camera MUCH more ergonomically pleasant.
I use the JJC grip... which adds an Arca Swiss base to it also.

You have a link to where you purchased it? Again, I don’t yet feel I need it — but time will tell as I use it more. Everyone seems to add those so there must be something significant to what it adds in terms of comfort/usability; I will admit that.

Thanks @Donzo98 - I think I’m gonna go with that grip.
Btw I was briefly considering the Freewell Flip Hood but didn’t like being forced to by default, buy their included filter. I emailed them about any option to buy without it, but damn those are some rude folks. I got basically lambasted for not wanting their filter — that according to them was being included free of charge. When I called them out on the fact that nothing in life is truly free and that the cost of that filter is embedded into the price of the hood….i also said that I do not value the hood at $149 for myself. I am sure it’s a well engineered piece of kit and it may be worth to someone else to,pay that much or more for a hood — heck look at the Sony prices, so I understand that. And I am also a retired engineer and know all the R& D that goes into innovations. But I’ve also been involved in developing over-engineered solutions that don’t sell as well as expected or provide the value users want to pay for beyond a certain price point .
Then got a direct email from who I am assuming is the owner or senior manager there absolutely insulting me for suggesting that the hood doesn’t command a price of $149 even without the filter….and rambled on that they’ve sold over 100K of them. There was more BS in that email but I will leave the abridged version above alone and suffice enough that’s not a company I would buy anything from in the future.

Alright so was on the fence if I was going to keep my RX1R III, Trade it, or Return it. Decided to keep it. It is a great (albeit over-priced) miniature powerhouse.
So I went ahead and ordered some of the accessories suggested in this thread:
Pair of 2 additional OEM Batteries (and a Charger) (Amazon
Some items are still in route to me. But I did get and installed both grips (Thumb and Hand). And they feel a little awkward right now to me…so they’ll take some getting use to. The handgrip doesn’t leave a lot of space for the fingers between the grip and lens — so it feels a bit uncomfortable. And someone earlier mentioned about the grip being metal and feeling cold. Well I’m in Florida, but yeah that sucker is cold… it’d be a non-starter in cold weather regions. The thumb grip feels like it’s excellent quality…but just like the hand grip it feels a little awkward too as I have to contort my pointer finger to press the shutter. I think for me it would be perfect if the shutter was right above where the hand grip is, But I need more time adjusting to these accessories. I think in the end I may send both grips back and just buy a leather half case, like this one: https://a.co/d/04bG5Pvw

The shutter buttons are finicky on the RX1RIII... the threads on many of the Amazon ones are too small.
This is what I have on mine... FAT THREAD... not regular.
I got the Squarehood lens hood. Love the quality and more for the brand name not shouting for attention. It's engraved in black and can't be seen unless you try to take a closer look to spot it.

Check out Squarehood… that’s what I’m using.
I ended up returning the JJC Hand grip — as functional as it was with the arca Swiss and Air Tag features, it was just too uncomfortable for me and my wife as well. Quite frankly we both felt that the hand grip made the camera lose it’s appeal as a small somewhat pocketable (not 😂 ) EDC. So we ordered a custom leather half case (which looks much nicer and more premium than the Sony OEM for much less $$$).

What Air Tag features, I didn't know the JJC had that??
Received the half leather case earlier this week (ordered on 03/13 - less than 7 days ago), and I am very impressed with the look, fit, and finish…and it’s very comfortable to hold with enough clearance between my fat fingers and the lens. Just $86.66 after shipping and taxes (inclusive of import fees). Oh and they included a free hand strap. The packaging was very premier, kinda like how apple used to package their premium products.

I got the black metal one and its perfect. The cutout at the top prevents finger crush between the lens and its the perfect fit and form for my hand.
