I've got the RX1R III in hand and have been trying to find some pieces to help kit it out a bit that are 3 party. I found a grip that is on the way from China, and am utilizing a Haoge Square hood.
I've also adopted a 1 stop ND filter to help knock the incoming light in to the sensor so I can try to keep the camera at F2 and not need to go past 1/2000 on the leaf shutter. Might even need a 2 stop for high sun days if trying to stay at F2...
Has anyone found a aftermarket thumb grip that works?
Yes, Lensmate X100V/VI thumb grip is a perfect fit. It is also foldable like the Sony version. Only problem is it is out of stock, so you need to find it used.
I haven't found a good thumb grip yet, but were you able to get your Haoge square hood to fit over a filter? Mine doesn't seem to clear it.
That said, because of the 1/2000s mechanical shutter limitation at f2 and needing to put on an ND filter on the camera regularly, I opted to skip the lens hood and just go with a set of magnetic filters (K&F Concept 49mm magnetic UV and 3-stop ND8 filters).
I have the magnetic UV filter screwed into the lens and leave it on there all the time for general protection and magnetically attach the ND/lens cap when needed. Depending on the lighting condition, when I take the camera out of my bag, I either remove both the ND8/lens cap together in one motion or remove just the lens cap leaving the ND on. I just magnetically attach whatever I took off when I put the camera back in my bag. It's been pretty convenient and I haven't had any issues with vignetting so far. Only downside is that you obviously can't really use a lens hood with this setup.
The JJC TA-GR3 works perfectly. It does make utilizing the PASM dial a little difficult since it doesn't fold but I normally just keep it on manual anyway so it doesn't bother me.

I'm using the Haoge LH-RX1 Hood and the filter is a Hoya HMC ND Filter (49mm, 1-Stop). They all work together. My issue right now is finding a thumb grip that works with the shutter dial that isn't $300.
IDS released a hand and thumb grip, which both look really nice. Low profile, but appear as though they would make a really nice combo, improving the hold of the camera, without impacting size. They are also coming out with a finger band (like Leica's finger loop), which would further secure the camera.

No worries. Saw it and thought it looked like the perfect grip - although arca swiss would have been nice - since it's low profile, but also appears to offer some purchase for ones fingers. The thumb grip also appears to offer similar benefits. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
Also, Benj Haisch received his and is planning to add a video on RX1Riii accessories in the near future. He tends to put out well thought out and detailed videos.
I'll look out for Benj's video. I agree, his videos are well presented and thought out. He's also a very talented photographer, which helps with the presentation. I'm surprised he purchased the RX1r.3, I seem to remember him being on the fence about the camera in his initial video.

I really like the design. I’ve ordered the had grip only. It really looks slim and compact. I have the sony case, and it is good but adds a bit of bulk to the camera. Really can wait to compare side by side.
I also have the sony thumb grip and it works for me. after bitting that bullet, I ‘ll wait before ordering the new one. it really does look nice and sleek, but the sony places the thumb hook at a better place in my opinion. it also protects the back dial which seem too be overly sensitive by design.
i will report back when i’ve received my hand grip.
The IDS grip arrived yesterday 10/24, ordered on 10/16. Not a bad shipping time for an item coming from China. Initial impressions, very light, adds almost no height to the camera (about the height of 2 coins, eyeballing it), very nice fit and finish. One observation, the grip material is very smooth and slick. May have to add some gaffer's tape for extra grippiness.

Great to hear. Seems like it's matching expectations, from the pics shown.
If I end up grabbing a III at some point, will definitely grab a set.
I've received the new Grip. it is quite a bit smaller than the Sony. I like at least 50% less thick at the bottom. Where it makes the most difference is on the overall chunkiness. Given it is thinner and has no extra material on the sides and in the front. It makes for a less bulky look, closer to the original one.
The sony grip, however, makes it more comfortable for my larger hands. I've included pictures but given the black on black, I'm not sure it really shows the difference accurately.
Also the Sony case does provide more protection to the camera. Given the IDS grip design, with bigger hands, the hole made for the battery door, fingers naturally go over it. It is a bit hedgy and less comfortable that the Sony. I do find that aesthetically the IDS grip is much nicer given the minimalist look. However, ergonomically, the Sony is better (at least for larger hands). But I think that the Sony case defeats a bit the purpose of the smalllest FF. I will go on using both to make up my mind. One of them will propably end up on the trade forum.
