I had the non WR 27mm f2.8 back in the day when the X-T1 came out and I did enjoy that lens. I'm just more of a 20-35mm kind of guy. 28mm or 35mm is the sweet spot for me. I used to have an X70 but the GR III replaced it.
Makes sense. That 35mm (FF) and 23mm (Fujifilm) focal length is certainly popular. ( have a 23mm f/1.4 that I like to use for some urban street photography.
My 23/2.8 arrived this afternoon and is now mounted on my X-E5. It is so small and light! Yes, it hunts and is noisy, just like the Fuji 27/2.8, but I think it will work well for me on the X-E5 as my walkabout camera.

That is lovely, tight little system, isn't it?
Yes, it is Dan. I think both the X-E5 and the 23/2.8 are grossly overpriced, but that camera/lens is so handy to always have around I really like it even though I have not had it long.

That price is the hang-up for a lot of people, I think. It is literally twice the list price of its predecessor! (I know it has updated stuff, but XE models always do — they are more or less the last to get the sensor and other features of the newest generation.)

Seeing what post tariff prices are like now I'm glad I got mine with lens at kit price before the tariffs. As well as the XT5. Price seemed a little high then but now everything is a lot more costly.
I guess I just wanted the 40mp sensor, IBIS and EFCS in the smaller form factor. Maybe a little biased becuase I started with the XE1 but it packs nicer than the XT5 and also fits in my one of my winter coats pocket neatly with any of the pancakes. The X system in it's most compact/original form imo.

The price increase is too large to be explained by the tariffs. I go into this in a piece I wrote about the XE5.
It also isn’t explained by adding IBIS or the 40MP sensor, since including those things from the more expensive models has been the norm with previous XE models. And the addition of the sims knob doesn’t explain it either.
My suspicion is that Fujifilm is trying to get us to think of it as a ILC X100vi alternative. They certainly moved the styling that direction.
When the XE5 was released its list price was the same as the list price for the XT5! That was untenable, so they raised the XT5 price a little bit. ;-)
I think the XE5 is a fin little camera, but the pricing doesn’t make sense. Perhaps when they upgrade it to become the EVF-only replacement for the XPro in another 2-3 years… ;-)

You know I thought you were wrong about the XPro but the longer the years go without a replacement model the more I think you might have been correct all along.
I've been using one for a few weeks now, and i have to admit it is a really well sorted camera. I've used all the X-E series except the iv and the X-T1, 4 and 5 and a few of the X-Txx series and build-wise it feels like a step above all of them. The rocker switch falls just under my finger and is really quick to bring up four custom functions.
I think Fuji probably had spare capacity at the facility that produced the machined aluminium top for the 100RF, and so used that capacity for the X-E5. The three things it needs to be an EVF only X-Pro IV are a bigger better EVF, second card slot and weather sealing.
I find I use it in quite a different way to the X-T5. I hadn't expected that to be the case. On paper I would have said it is way overpriced. Having used it, I'm not so sure. I can see myself getting a lot of use out of it.
I bought the XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR as part of the original kit for the X-E5 and it cost just $200 and for me it was well worth it and glad I did. The body might have been priced higher due to the tariffs but it convinced me to go out and but the X-T5 mint and used for only $1250 two months before I received my X-E5. I considered that a good deal IMHO.
The 23/2.8 on my X-E5 is fast becoming one of my Fuji cameras/lenses ever. I have lost count of the Fuji bodies/lenses I have owned over the past 8 years since switching from Nikon. This little combo now goes with me everywhere! Here are my shrimp tacos I had for lunch. Delicious shrimp tacos and an outstanding camera and lens!
