I have know Guy since the early days at Getdpi and his passion, especially when it came to photography is an understatement. One area that we shared along with many others is the performance and testing of photographic equipment, especially lenses. This is well known both at that website as well as here on FM. Putting all this aside, he often spoke of his love of family and other interests. This news is disheartening but Guy's strong beliefs is on his side as he works towards recovery and I know we all here send our prayers and all the best and wish him and his family well.
Wow, so sorry to hear this! Hope he has a full recovery so he can get back to enjoying his family and photography! I started corresponding online with Guy many years ago on GetDPI, at the very beginning of the digital era, as we struggled to find the best lenses for the latest sensors. He was always so helpful and generous with his knowledge.
"I'm 61 now...and realize how precious life is...don't take anything for granted. Take care yourselves everyone.
I think a fair number of us here are over 50... be mindful of your health!!"
Dr. Don,
An unfair number of us here are over 80! It's not always easy for our group to remember that excellent advice to be "mindful." We appreciate when you youngsters remind us!!
Hats off to all folks in neurology, from the PT folks to you sawbones. I suspect your average surgical day is even more intense than those for Hollywood bosom-enhancers.
I really enjoyed Guy and the rest of the photographers that were pushing the limits of Leica and Zeiss lenses on the Canon bodies. Was telling my wife about Guy and brought back a flood of memories. I’m glad to see the video of him doing PT.

I wrote to his daughter a couple days ago, but no response yet.
Oh boy, hope he continues to improve. At the gym I attend there is a lady who had a stroke, and works with one of the trainers, she came in pretty stiff, but week by week I see her improving.
"We have had some setbacks; we aren’t sure what is going on right now. He has that cold and then it took a turn and he was put back on a ventilator. His brain scans seem to be fine. They think he has delirium from ICU. Every time we feel like we are moving forward something happens and we take 10 steps backwards; it’s awful."
Discouraging, but I think anyone who has gone through this with a loved one or themselves understands the setbacks can be plentiful. We shouldn't lose hope. Guy's a strong individual with an obviously loving support system surrounding him. I would never bet against anyone with that going for him.
Please continue giving his family our thoughts. I would love to strengthen them. It is so nice, that he has a strong family. Some of their attention might get through to him, even if he may feel confused, as the reference to delirium suggests.
Thank you for the updates Mike.
I'm not privy to his medical records, but generally recovery from intracranial hemorrhage (we don't know the type & extent) is a high hurdle. Now he has a "cold" and what sounds like respiratory failure, prompting the need for mechanical ventilation. This could be very serious. Let's all hope for the best.
Guy is in all our thoughts as well as his family and support staff. We all know here that the road to improvement and positive progress in such cases is often a very lengthy one, with so many ups and downs, both physically for Guy and emotionally for those that are close to and love him. He's had such a positive impact on so many of us here and elsewhere with his on-line presence and participation and of course those that have interacted with him in person, knew they had a friend.
Thank you to all those that were able to provide updates and I know we'll continue our prayers and hope.
