p.1 #1 · Canon’s whack a mole pricing!

Canon’s R6MK II has gone up and down in its price range $400. Ranging from $1799 to $2199 and now at $1999. Even the R8 we purchased for $1299, is now in the price range of $300 and now sells for $1399 after listing for $1599. Both B/H are adding free stuff, but Adorama actually adds useful items like an SD card, whereas B/H only gives you an app to download. If Canon or any retailer is trying to clear inventory before yet, another camera model, then this seems a weird way to do it, tariff’s and all.

I'm not aware of any confirmed Canon camera release for this year, however it is time for the R6III to drop. Likely in Nov. It's hard to believe the R6II has been out for nearly 2 years already. Time flies!
And of course the R7II should be coming along soon as well.

It'll be interesting to see what sales or incentives take place on any new releases in this current market.
When I bought my old 70D it came with a Pixma Pro 100 printer and paper. It's been a great printer all these years. Especially for free.

Thankfully I'm waiting for the R5III so I have time to wait out the current rollercoaster ride.

johnld, at first I was majorly bummed by the price wobbles, but then I used my Canon upgrade discount, and it made things somewhat better. Still would have liked to have paid the $100 less for the R8 that I had anticipated. I had planned to buy the R6 II, but it did not work for me.

Prices vary with seasons, competition from refurbs and gray market, and, of course, due to a rapidly aging model. Even books and jeans on Amazon go up and down, sometimes varying daily. Better to sell at a small profit than have inventory sit for months and lose value. I bought the R6 MK II at launch a few years back for $2500. But yeah, you're doing okay at anything below $2000. If I need something for a project, I pay the piper and reap the rewards of a new toy/tool now. I'd never get anything done if I waited to save a Benjamin or two.

Social media is doing this IMO. The sky is falling buy now, a few days later ,on sale again (Now on sale hurry won't last long). Just social media marketing. Must be huge markups in these cameras.
One of the things I like about Canon is they flood the market and seem to always have stock. I never buy new anymore with Canon. The cameras are everywhere.

Indeed. Everything is hyped to the maximum, as influencers and wannabe-influencers shout louder and louder to try to be heard above the din.

Every new camera is either horrible or miraculous. Every old camera is either a classic or trash.

It is nuts.

Canon has often stopped rebates/incentives around mid year, changed MSRP and then immediately launched new incentives. Usually covers a small uptick in MSRP by making it hard to discern. I think this year is just worse because they are trying to anticipate a tariff situation that is still evolving.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the inconsistent tariffs on products from Japan.

Seems like a few years ago, R6 got really cheap, refurbished, maybe $1299, then I looked around Christmas, regular price new, $1999. So it's pretty common to have different prices, and for them to mark it down hundreds on a sale. Not just Canon, D7500 $250 off the other day.

No moles were whacked, in this process lol. Add tariffs on top of that, supposed to take effect beginning of the month, recently announced, probably good they're keeping prices as constant as they are

What, you say? Surely you aren't saying that the tariff situation changes weekly, daily, and sometimes hourly?

Shocking, I know it's a surprise like the Bond Market which has been turbulent recently.
