The biggest thing was that it drastically lowered the cost of full-frame photography. Previously you had to cough up the considerable purchase cost for a high resolution version of the 1-Series body. While this was a really big deal, to my mind the version that really pulled it all together was the 5DII. It almost doubled the resolution and added features like live view.

You have confirmed the "path" of Canon's digital body progression Dan. I have 2 5DsR's, 90D(20D-to-the-90D), 1DsMKII and 1Dx...My 5D files are some of "thee" best I can compare with the 5DSr.
The APS-C bodies I only use for macro work( I always loved the flash for "fill" in macro work)....or center pof as the main subject.

What made me stop to shoot this was that there was a line of trees along the driveway up to the house and the shadows they were casting on the middle to right of the frame, behind the bear, were astounding. This image does not due justice to what I was visually "seeing".

Does anyone use the Canon 500mm f4 version 1 with the current EOS R cameras? I am wondering how the AF performs with this set up. I am considering upgrading my 1D4 and I'm leaning towards the R5 II.
The EF 70-200mm is such a great lens. It's been great for to me for about a decade and now paired with the R6 Mark II and the R5 it continues to deliver. This time, I paired it with the R5 and took 2400 pictures of a Paso Fino Horse Show (I was mostly spraying and praying ). I was there to photograph these two little girls, my buddy's daughters. The first picture was at about 8:30am. The second picture was at about 7:15pm... those shows go on forever!

Over the years I have had three Canon EF 70-200mm lenses —a f/2.8 version and a couple of the f/4 versions. Each one has been an excellent lens and among those that I rely on the most.

The 70-200f2.8 is my "go to lens'MP". It was thee only zoom I trusted. I have another EF24-70f2.8 to compliment that.

Thanks for that, I'm glad to hear they work well together. I think it will be a nice upgrade for me. Yes, the 500mm is heavy but I've been using it for close to 15 years now so I think I can stick with it a while longer. I've made it a point to never handle one of the newer models so I don't know what I'm missing.
I wanted to come back to this to show you some samples. These were all from the same air show. R6 Mark II + 500mm f/4L IS v1. Never missed a shot that wasn't user error.
