I would love it Sony introduced a 20+FPS 33MP stacked sensor body. Any camera they do that to would be an instant own for me to go along with my A7RV.

Quite a few people saying internal storage would be a positive. I’m in the opposite camp. SSDs like spinning disks have a lifespan. I’d rather retain the ability to remove the storage and replace with new to prolong the life of the camera. Having said that I don’t think I’ve ever kept a body longer than 5 years before changing so it probably doesn’t affect me anyway 🤣

On the risk of sounding like a broken record, I would like more timely updates for the A7RVI.

It's absolutely ridiculous to me that much older camera's such as the A7S III and the A7 IV have received entirely new features such as in-camera custom LUT's and Write Digital Signature, while A7R V owners haven't received an update in almost a year.

Sony is desperately getting rid of A7RV stock and offering rebates up to $1000 in Canadian market with Trade In Trade Up program.

Last time when they did it for A1, A1II was released in less than 2 months.

Anyways what improvements or features you are looking forward to ?

To me this is an interesting but very different camera from the A7r series. I think what you want is a new A7C series with a stacked sensor and probably the sensor from the A1 and A1 II. This would even allow them to remove the shutter from that camera and go with a totally electronic shutter. If they improved the viewfinder to at least the 3.7 million dot one in the A7r III, then I think it would be a super compelling product, but I think it would be about a $6,000 camera. I am not sure what they would call it, but A1C would be a good name. I don't think it is a successor to the A7r V, however. This would give them parallel cameras in the small bodied C models and the larger bodied non-C models with only the A9 III not having a smaller bodied alternative.

I love the A7r V as for what I shoot and the way I like to shoot it fits really well. I like the larger body. I have huge hands and I like the big EVF and wouldn't want to sacrifice that for a smaller body. I think having the smaller bodied alternatives, however, really sets Sony apart from Canon and Nikon. Of course just having the A9 III with a global shutter also sets Sony apart. I don't think Canon or Nikon competes well with the A7r V, so I think that is why Sony is being a bit slow in bringing out the A7r VI. I think what we are most likely to get in an upgrade is a 90 MP sensor which would have about the same pixel density as the 40MP APS-C sensor in some of the Fuji X cameras (e.g., XT-5). Sony makes that sensor so I don't think it would be that hard for them to make a FF version of it (with a Bayer filter array of course instead of X trans). With the A7r series, the even numbered models have introduced a new sensor with more MP, while the odd numbered models have re-used that sensor to address functioning of the camera in other ways (e.g., better EVF, better AF, better IBIS, different tilt screen, etc.) Since a VI is an even numbered upgrade I expect it to mostly be about a new sensor and it is easy to imagine what that sensor will be.

My #1 wish is that it has ACCURATE eye focus confirmation when using manual focus lenses.

I don't disagree with you. But I didn't mean to suggest that the A7RVI need be as small as an A7Cxx series camera. Rather, I am unhappy that Sony's "main" cameras have continued to slowly creep up in size. For example, I find the differenece between the A1 and the A1II, while putatively small, is enough to make the A1II uncomfortable for me to handle quickly and lightly. Fred and others have also mentioned their unhappiness with the creeping growth in size of Sony's main cameras. Clearly, this is a matter of personal preference.

For some people, the larger camera size is desirable, and I can understand how that woud be. But for me, the best maximum size of Sony's main body cameras was reached with the A9, which is significantly larger than the A7Cxx series bodies, but is small enough to handle nimbly and with less attention from others.

Sony's brand from their beginning of the mirrorless revolution has been based on compactness, as again exemplified with the new RX1RIII. I hope they maintain this emphasis and make any larger cameras singular exceptions to a rule of compactness.

“Confirmed” to be 67MP and shipping by May with new body design.
The rest of the specs are not confirmed and some read as fantasy.

30 fps 67 mp sounds like an A1 II killer, that doesn't make much sense.

Yeah, they won't step on the toes of their flagship A1 series. They'll limit it in several ways. Even if it has a stacked sensor like the A7V, I bet they limit the auto focus to 60 calculations per second still. And it won't have a readout speed like the A1. Best case I'm guessing would match the A7V.... but, I still don't see that making much sense for them to do (as nice as that would be for us).

Prove me wrong, Sony! (pretty please)

It would canibalize a1mk2. Maybe they could give a1mk2 40fps firmware update it deserves. Plus 120 AF calculations vs 60 and it might make a difference. But 67mp stakced 30 fps sounds insanely good.

My guess only - the A7V points the way to part of what will improve in the A7RVI, namely a faster partially stacked sensor (but will not dethrone the speedy fully stacked sensor of A1II), and the similar Dual Conversion Gain High Dynamic Range. I think we will also see the newer body style of A1II/A9III which provides more space between fingers and lens and has the top left control cluster, and IBIS increasing by .5 stops. Same resolution EVF, but perhaps brighter or other visual improvement. Small resolution bump to 67mp apparently (previous rumors suggested 80mp but this was likely not in a partially stacked sensor). Likely some improved video specs for those who need that but not something I personally follow.

IMO the value proposition might not be there for some - I think we’ll see at least $4k announcement price, maybe as much as $4.5k, while brand new/warrantied A7RV’s are $2850 via our b&s board.

I'm guessing partially stacked. Main improvement for a landscape camera is on the dynamic range at low ISO. Partially stacked will improve the readout speed, something the R series is in need of. It won't have the readout speed of the a1ii, so for some it will be a viable a1ii replacement, for others not. I think the readout speed for AF has been a bit deficient in the R series, so this will improve that, but not get to the a1ii / a9iii levels of focus performance. I'm wondering if 67MP gives them more room for IBIS or focus breathing?

To some extent it would canabilize the a1ii, but cripple hammer was a game Canon played for a long time that left them vulnerable to competition. Sony traditionally does not cripple the new bodies. Getting the fps above 15 for the mainline and high res bodies may be strategic in that it pushes demand towards the Sony lenses vs Tamron / Sigma. So Sony applies the cripple hammer to third party glass instead of its own products.

I don't expect the "rumor" sites to be any more or less "on" than usual. I guess my wish list is pretty limited. I don't know if it would be worse if out in time for our planned trip in September (and truly amazing and available and affordable - not divorce level pricing) or announced for and released the first of October, just after the trip...

67mp / 30fps is the same CPU power like A9III's 24mp / 120fps.
So, what would be economical benefit for manufacturer - less RAM for buffer and dedicated fps/af-mode disk? Not much.
Z8 at least is smaller than Z9. There all A-series line-up would be a mess...
Presume that spec is for A1-III but it's too soon to announce it (better to see what will be R1-II and Z9-II).
BTW, that spec 67mp /30fps were previously rumored a half a year ago for Nikon.
So did Nikon get exclusive rights from Sony Semiconductor like it was for D800 sensor (A7R hit the market almost 18 months after it)...

If Sony plan to upgrade A1 somehow different (50mp Global Shutter?) there should be something more than just it.

Ditto. Since I purchased my 2 A1II’s I’ve barely used the A7RV so I don’t expect to upgrade it. I’ve only kept it for those rare instances where I prioritize squeezing out the utmost image quality and amount of pixels for possible post processing crop without artificially increasing resolution in apps.

I am not the target buyer for the A7RVI since I already have the A1 and the A1II, they are great all around cameras. I know 10 FPS is enough for a lot of people but 10 FPS is so 2015.

I like my A1 mk1 files more than my A7RV files, by a fair margin. The cropping power is significant, but I still like the less pronounced/tighter noise that comes from the A1. Unless the A7R6 changes that characteristic, I'll opt for an A1 unless I needed a camera that still offers a fully mechanical shutter.

It's ironic that the A7R5 is the worst implementation of that sensor across the wider camera market They really, really need to get their DR affairs in order if they are going to keep or bump up the megapixels.

Out of pure curiosity: What other cameras besides the Leica M make up this wider camera market? 🤔
