I picked up what I had been looking for on Monday but I had not noticed the 28-400 for $845 until now - possibly because I bought on on the B&S board back in the fall for $1000. No regrets as it has had plenty of use since then.
Still for slightly less one could buy the refurb with 3 years Nikon care.

When I looked the other day after seeing the initial post here on FM, the 105 micro didn't show up. I went to the Nikon website probably 15 times over the course of 2 days and never saw it .... until last night. Got one coming. I sure have missed a micro/macro lens in my arsenal.

DIdn't crash - Nikon USA's site remained online - Nikon just brought the store part of the site down for a little while, which they do from time to time to tweak inventory.

The inventory changes in real time if you pay attention to the filters, they certainly don't need to bring it down for lenses to disappear out of stock or come back into stock.

The inventory updates in real-time for items sold but they sometimes bring the site down to change inventory, per a customer-service rep I spoke with about this a few months ago.
