I have been visiting Death Valley every year since 2009 and while I have witnessed a variety of weather, I must say my last visit coincided with some of the most varied storm light while in the dunes. Here are four images in chronological order. Side light, back light, front light, and twilight, there was no shortage of opportunity. All shot with my Sony A7R V and 12-24mm f2.8 GM.
Spectacular set, Jim. Each one is a real beauty. Did you have to do a lot of cloning out of footprints? On my visits to DV I’ve never had real clean dunes, always so many footprints.

The wind had been up all day and honestly, zero footprints. I tend to head very far east away from the parking lot, so I generally see fewer anyway, but the wind did its job.

Oh my, this is what I dream of when going to dunes. You took good advantage of spectacular conditions, each a beauty, but #1 stands out for me - the sand flying away in the wind adds a final dramatic touch.
The entire set is magnificent! Each photo touches a particular sense of the setting.
#2 the warmth and glow
#3 the texture of the sand and depth of the sky
#4 the calm coolness of the approaching evening
#1 this is my favorite, as I can feel the blowing sand across my ankles and legs
