p.1 #1 · For those who doubt 20Dkit

Ordered a 20D kit from dell (1300 shipped, great price when they had discount/coupon)

Here is a shot of a gift I purchased:

Edit: WARNING: This picture intended to show only the relative quality of the 18>55 lens, not to show the technique, quality of preperation of the image or subject or ability.

Take a look, this done with kit lens.

Any and all Canon DSLR's can do that; from the first D30 up. So can any and all DSLRs from all major makes.

Honestly .... I doesn't seem to be in perfect focus, perhaps too close to the ring? Great camera and an ok lens ... you will enjoy it.

Badly out of focus. No controll over DOF whatsoever..... (no not the camera, you!!!)

I think maybe he was referring to the quality of the images taken with the Kit Lens (18-55 EF-S).

It's not out of focus it's very shallow DOF, the higher gem and the right set diamonds are in focus. Was making a point of all the people who complain at the 18>55 Kit saying its worthless it isn't.

Ok, it isn't worthless, but the pic is still a bad example.
Becouse of the narrow DOF and the angle the pic is taken the top part of the blue gem is out of focus, while the bottom part and the diamonds are well focused. Next time either change the angle or use a bigger DOF and than the pic will e more convincing.

Talexander I get your point. Possibly is the point that even the kit lens can provide great images? I would have shot a little more stopped down but the lighting is great!

Unbelievable arrogance from most of you.

It's a beautiful picture, and his meaning in posting it was not cryptic.

Shameless arrogance.

I think that what folk are saying, somewhat hamfistedly, is that it would have been a better sample with a wider DOF.

Cheers

I'm sorry, but the new pic looks even more blur to me?
I have no doubts that 18-55 produces nice pictures though; it's all a matter of knowing what are the strong and weak points of the lens, and showing only pictures that illustrate only the good points.

talexander, I'm with you on this one. I bought the kit lens along with the 20D on January 1st and I've found the lens to be somewhat of a surprise for only $100. I've seen where the lens takes a lot of hits from people who think it absolutely sucks, but I don't agree. Granted, it's no L series but overall it isn't that bad. For a $100 lens I've had some nice results. I also like the zoom range. Anyway, this is just my opinion.

Aye.

I've got a 17-40L and I'm looking into a 70>200 F4L but I just felt it nice to point out the kit lens isn't that bad. (Compared to say, almost every quantaray lens I've ever seen)

Bottom line...kit lens is just fine !! IMO there are many examples that would show the the kit lens far exceeds it's price point.
