Now these developments just as I was about to order one.

I had not heard this from others, but then I might have missed many comments. Of course I wondered all along about the 60 refresh rate versus 120 on other Leica EVF cameras.

There is a whole world of things to try with the EV1, for instance there is a huge array of relatively inexpensive along with a few quite rare manual or early auto focus Nikon F glass. The simple addition of a F to M adapter. As long as it has a manual F stop it can go on the Leica. I have had Nikons for decades and still do, for animal photography the new Z8s are amazing, but the big glass weighs a lot. My leicas and I have had those both film vintage and new and M11s are light carry huge resolution. The M11 with 60 mp is great and there is a long tradition of adapting vintage glass. Add an adapter and 180 mm ED 2.8 becomes Leica glass, as well as many other long coveted and appreciated Nikon lenses. I wish I still had more of my old Nikon glass- but my survivors include a 180 ED 2.8 and 1.4 35 mm thorium kept because they are special. While I wait for my LLL 35 mm AA to arrive adapting Nikon glass will keep me entertained and maybe even buy a few more vintage Nikon F lenses. While this also works just fine with my M11P and EVF somehow the ergonomics seem better with an EV1.

I mostly like my EV1 with tiny compact M lenses part of the reason I got it......... but there are occasions, and sometimes just playing is fun.

Yes in low light and I am not happy about it, hope there is a firmware update to resolve it.

Can someone describe this flickering? I am not seeing this.

I am not seeing flickering either. Rarely do I see banding from led lights. Low light for me looks just fine and is completely usable. Only when there is no light does the viewfinder become choppy and grainy but seill amplified enough to focus. Still better than a rangefinder which I would never be able to focus in a "no light " senario.

Yeah, I've been using it for a few weeks now primarily in low light and don't see any flicker. It's about as good as the sony 7cr. The only thing that beats it for me is the Fuji GFX 100II. That's night and day, but it is expected. The Leica's a great camera. It's my first color one. I've only shot the 10 monochrom and now the Leica 11 mono which is a very good cam. Forget the specs of the EVF and try it. Make sure you have a good return option with the dealer. Not good enough for you, return. Easy.
I sold my Q3 43 - I know blasphemy! - for it. Didn't get on with it, though I loved the lens.
Anyway, don't rule it out w/o trying first, especially if your eyesight is an issue. Mine is, so rangefinder is out.

Similar discussion on. LUF

"Thanks for all the replies. Yes, turning off exposure preview or using the shutter button half-pressed can reduce some of the banding, but that’s only because the preview becomes uniformly bright. Even then, the banding is still noticeable, especially when reviewing photos after they’ve been taken.

Disabling exposure preview really defeats the whole purpose of the EVF, since I want to see a realistic preview of what the image will actually look like—otherwise, I might as well just use an M11 😝"

The jury is still out for me due to this banding issue.

It could be me, but when using the Viso2 on an M11 I did not notice any banding. Comments please.

I have seen this on LUF but again they offer no additional information to back this up. I have not seen this flickering at all. The only think I can think of is they are using it with electronic shutter. The EV1 EVF is way, way better than the Visoflex 2. The main drawback is when you use 10x magnifcation the playback is slow and choppy. Other then that it is pretty good.

Don't believe everything you read. Especially on LUF, I've never seem a forum that rejects anything new so much. First the M11 was the spawn of the devil. Now the M EV1 is the harbinger of death but the M11 is the gold standard. Always consider the source when reading comments.

I got my EV1 to do light carry and small lenses and it seems quite great for that. A good travel and outdoors kit. But one can not travel every day, so I am exploring what else. It is good with fast lenses like my noct 0.95. Since there is no rangefinder adaption opportunities abound. I posted the 180 mm Nikon lens on the V1 yesterday, this is a quite good 180 mm relatively small lens that can even take a 1.4X TC to give an even longer light carry lens/camera. For some uses, not intense animal photography having the option of 180 mm is good. Another option is to mate old SLR lenses and Nikon F mounts work just fine. There are some unique lenses out that there is no equivalent. For instance the Nikkor 35 mm 1.4 thorium lens was a go to in the 1970s for journalists. The advantage of thorium glass is rendition the warm vibrant colors and I like this lens in early morning and late day as well as fall light and colors. Being F it mounts to Z Nikons w/o issue but it can also mount to Leica M11 (EV1) shown... There are other Nikon or Nikkor lenses some collectors pieces like the 58 mm F1.2, others like the 28 F2 is still great glass. None of these are small, light so not in my original intent of a light carry kit, but it is another potential use being "freed" from the RF into a mirrorless there is no calibration. The M EV1 is just another option- I am not giving up my M4, my M4-2, or my MP and I am not giving up my M11P just as it with my Nikons, I use Z7s lighter and smaller, and Z8s much more capable as circumstances warrant. I intend to embrace the option and figure out all the different things I can do with M EV1 in addition to the light carry kit that was my starting point. I just got an adapter to try it on my Questar telescope (1400 mm)- not necessarily for astronomy but I may well spy on the woodpeckers I see on top of the Saguaro.

The pics that follow, Nikkor 35 mm 1.4 thorium lens, I have a great copy, CLA in Japan, and I cleared the lens to new glass status with UV. Seems fairly minty to me and I am using it in that spirit- to use the thorium render. This lens focuses to 0.3M so I can get in close. No one is ever going to make a thorium glass lens again, not even LLL went to replicating the Leica thorium 50 2 collapsible for example, they used Thorium's Lanthanum replacement and their Lak glass is indeed very nice. On the web some recent reviewers have cited this a great lens of the past now past it as it is certainly soft wide open compared to recent lenses. It could do F1.4 for the film era of its origin. But now I prize the lens not for its 1.4 but for its colors and when stopped down to 4, 5.6 it is sharp enough and those thorium colors come through in good light. There is nothing quite like it in the Leica world, the 50 mm 2 thorium is a lens earlier by two decades and is not this lens. With no rangefinder coupling possible this is the type of lens to experiment with on the M11 EV1.

Isn't the banding caused by LED lighting and occurs on all but the super fast stacked sensor or global shutter cameras. I don't think this is the fault of the EVF. You will also see it with the Visoflex, and live view on M cameras.

So here's another person who sent his EV1 back due to flickering.

"I did send it back. I didn't investigate this very much and just decided to stay with my M11. But the flickering was definitely there in my copy especially when zoomed in for critical focus."

After reading Overgaard's comments on the potential for flickering and how to reduce it, I believe I can try to avoid it.

SOOO I ordered one from Santa, but he will be late by a day.

5-10 minutes out of the box and it's a keeper for me since I ALWAYS used my Viso2's on all M11's anyway. Seems a natural way to use an M11 for me. Now do I keep my M11P? For now, yes.
