I just acquired a Sony 200-600 G again. I've had 4 copies over the years, due to lack of usage and sudden interest for nearby wildlife again. All of the copies have been sharp and focus fast, but focus often misses for moving subjects.
It's probably more user error than anything, though all of the recent G and GM telephoto lenses have more and stronger focus motors.
The 400-800 G seems like a lovely lens for those of need. It doesn't make sense to someone like me, as I can find the 200-600 G for less than half the price new, and I don't use it quite enough to justify the advantages.

Some terrific shots there!! Amazing work!!
Thank you my friend!
Went to the Naval Academy to watch the Blue Angels' rehearsal yesterday, really tough lighting, the smoke just hanged in the air. I noticed even 400mm was too long most of the time from where I was, a 200-600 would have worked better for this show.

Nice shots Douglas!
I don’t even want to know how many shots weren’t usable because a small part of the jet was cut off 😄

Thank you Robert! I had the 100-400 GM on an A1 but didn't use it on the jets, only on Fat Albert. I should have used the 100-400 for the whole show and called it a day..

Do you have both cameras on a harness? Or do you just set them down at your feet.
I have a dual rapid strap. But the 400-800mm is too damn heavy to hang off it

300mm GM/TC’s…yes
400-800mm…No 😄
I have a duo camera harness on the 400-800 and A1II, but I didn't hang the A1+100-400 GM on it, I just put the second setup on the ground, thinking I would only use it for Fat Albert. When I saw the clipped bodies on the A1II+400-800, I didn't realize they were shot at 400mm. It's been raining on and off the whole day today, the Blue Angels couldn't decide the real show today was a go or no go until 1:30PM local time, then they announced it was a go. It was supposed to start at 2:00 but the low cloud ceiling at Andrews AFB was holding them from taking off. Not sure if they will really fly this afternoon. But if they do, the vapor cone will be crazy!

Hope they fly 🤞
High humidity can yield some great shots! Good luck!

I didn't go today but they ended up cancelling the show due to the weather. Will bring my 400-800 to the Jones Beach show on Long Island this Saturday, and the 100-400 GM for the B-29 (Doc), I am pretty sure wide end of the 400-800 will be too long for the B-29. $120 in tolls for this trip to Long Beach, ouch! I can drive from my home in Maryland all the way to Orlando, Fl with ZERO toll but a short trip to NJ, NY cost an arm and a leg.

Excellent set Douglas! Don't remember when I last have seen the picture of flying B-29
Thank you Robert, Peire!
This particular B-29 is called "Doc", produced in March 1945 but never participated in combat. It was abandoned in desert over more than 40 years and took 15 years to rebuild it. It flew for the first time in 2016 since 1956. It's one of the only two airworthy B-29s in the world today. I am not sure if I had seen 'Doc" before but I have seen the other one "FIFI" quite a few times. FIFI is currently in the "shop" so technically "Doc" is the only flyable B-29 right now.
I didn't know if the 400mm on the 400-800 would be too long for Doc so I had a 100-400 GM on another A1, turned out 400mm was no problem for this location. I was concerned I wouldn't be able to get a single sharp shot of Doc at 1/100 and miss the opportunity. I ended up having quite a few good ones.
Here are two shot from the 100-400 GM.
