Someone decided to leave the nest tonight, while I was there.
I was checking on another owl in the area, when I came around the nest tree, I watched this owlet
do a somewhat controlled fall to a tree maybe 20 feet from the cavity.
I know they normally branch, this one kind of fledged.

Some from today. All handheld, OSS in mode 3. I also tried it with the 1.4X on but probably will not do that at the Connowingo Dam as the 400-800mm range is pretty ideal.

Nice set Douglas!
How you liking the A1 II so far?
Thank you Robert! I just received the A1II on Monday, set it up for a spin Tuesday afternoon. I haven’t really configured the more sophisticated AF options, I just set it up like my A1. I think I had pre capture on the whole time but for the shots I got, pre capture wasn’t really needed. The best action in the afternoon took place just when the battery died, . It went from 7% to nothing just like that. The A1II did seem to pick up the birds eyes much better than the A1. I am not sure it stays on the eagles’ eyes in flight. The green focus points during playback didn’t show the focus points were on the eyes but I am not sure how accurate the focus points are in playback.
I am not entirely sure a $6500 AII justifies the $3000 difference over a good used A1. But for me, it cost “only” $4000 because I just sold my A7RV for $2500, that’s how I justified it to myself lol. Now I run an A1 and and A1II. I hated the EVF blackout of cameras without stacked sensors. I guess I am spoiled by the A1.
More testing on ospreys tomorrow, then the big airshow this weekend.

If you weren’t already aware, there does seem to be a battery glitch on the A1 II. The camera will sometimes say the battery is exhausted. But if you put it in an another camera, there’s still a charge. There’s a whole thread on it if you want to take a look. Kind of annoying. But carrying around some extra batteries mitigates it
