I received the lens yesterday and tried it out today. It's slightly heavier than the 200-600 but not annoyingly so. The extra reach, however, is great. That being said, it's amazing how even 800 mm often is not enough. Still, the lens is a keeper!

Excellent photograph, but I have to ask:
Do you happen to have any idea why there is a swastika on that aircraft?
Thank you! From my post in the last page;
"Messerschmitt Me 262, " Schwalbe" was the world's first operational jet fighter developed by Nazi Germany, it served in the tail end of WWII, too late to turn the tide. About 1400 were produced, whatever left from the war are all museum pieces, none is flyable. Five replicas were build in the US in the 1990's and the 2000's from plans created during the restoration of an original Me 262 now on display at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida. Only three of the five replicas are airworthy, one in Germany, one in Texas, and this one belongs to the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia."

Wow! That’s a pretty heavy crop! But you’re still getting very good detail on the pilot. And the writing on the fuselage is still very legible
The more I use the lens, the more I’m convinced it’s better at resolving fine details than the 200-600
Thanks for sharing the image Douglas!
Thanks Robert! There is a show in Latrobe, Pa this weekend, about 3 hours drive from here. But the lineup is meh, the main ones are the f-16 demo and the Canadian Snowbirds. It's going to be in the upper 90's today so I will skip this one. If I had gone I would probably have brought the 100-400 for the Snowbirds.

Great photos Douglas!
Looks like a great show!
I went to Laguna Seca over the weekend. But haven’t had a chance to go over the photos yet. Hopefully tonight 🤞
Thanks Robert! All the warbirds took off from/landed on the grass strip. The F-18 and the F-35 staged from the airport in Rochester, NY. Not often I get to see so many warbirds at the same show.

This Gray Hawk is enjoying a horned lizard (horny toad) on a mesquite branch just outside my office window. My wife walked in and said, "Don't move or you'll scare it."
The hawk had landed on the mesquite just as she was walking in. I made my way to my truck — the camera was still in there from the previous day. From the front of the house, I was able to hide behind a tree and snap some shots.
By the time I started shooting, it had worked through most of the lizard, but I managed to capture the final bites. I didn’t know horned lizards were on the menu — I always assumed small birds or mice/rats were more likely.
This is the point where my cover was blown lol, the hawk locked eyes on me but stayed around for a little while longer to clean it's beak.
