I'd love to hear your impressions of the build quality vs the ZF. I love how hefty the ZF feels, where I assume the Z5ii will feel much more plasticy.

The Z5II has a lot of magnesium in its construction and is about the same weight, but I bet the balance will be different than all that brass up top on the Zf. I hope it feels lighter in hand, but we will see. My favorite was the Z7II and thought about going back to one, but the features the Expeed 7 brings is too hard for me to overlook and the Z8 is way too heavy for my preferences.

I hope the SD door stays closed better than the terribly latching one on the Z7ii!

I had been been waiting for the Z6III to come out when the Z8 was a no go for me, but the initial reports of less DR than the Zf combined with Nikon doing a sale on referb Zf's pushed me into that. As it turned out the tiny bit less DR wouldn't have been a factor. I thought about switching to the Z6III but the Z5II does everything I want for less money. The Z5II is really the Z6III I was looking for and would have bought if it had come out back then.

Between z5II and Z6III, would you go with z5II if i'm you're not using the video feature at all?

This is my question too, especially if occasionally using larger lenses like a 14-24, 70-200, Plena etc etc. I have none of them myself but I'd like to know. I guess no one owns both yet so it's all guesses.

If I was planning to shoot action like sports or birds then I would definitely jump up to the Z6 III. If you plan to shoot video it’s not even a question go Z6 III. It really all depends on what you plan to shoot IMO.

Well... because UHS-II is maxed out at 300mbps so Nikon had to line skip. You'll see the difference if you pixel peep. I was hoping that Nikon would finally put 10-bit 4:2:2. Gerald Undone said that the NRAW is being processed somewhat because the IMATest DR test numbers didn't make sense, as if some NR was applied. It's interesting

It has nothing to do with Data rates-

The V90 cards are more than capable of capturing 6K video no problem. That’s not the problem. I can record 6K 30FPS raw all day on my Canon C80 with V90 cards. The data rate you are referring is 300MB/s not 300mbps-

The Z5ii has a 6K sensor in it. So raw footage “raw capturing the whole sensor” isn’t possible since its a 6K sensor-

So it has to do something to get rid of data to make it a 4k image in RAW-

It’s best to just steer clear of it. There are generally tons of issues with line skipping etc. For example the R5mk2 shows to on moire on patterns if using 4K raw (they line skip) but full sensor 8k Raw is awesome.

So it’s not a data rate issue, it’s a converting the 6K image to a 4K raw image and having to process and remove data.

Way to technical but its a limitation of trying to mix stills and video cameras-

I wonder if it will have the same MF focusing aids of the ZF, specifically face/eye focus confirmation box in MF? Or is that only ever going to be ZF specific?

That's on the Z6iii and Z50ii as well, it's not Zf specific.

I asked that question on a YouTube review and the Z5II does get that just like the Zf, Z6III, and Z50II.

I’m talking about the write speed of the card. Not bitrate. Try and record 4K/30p RAW on the Z6 III to the SD card and you’ll see why the Z5 II doesn’t.

Any word on the EVF with a focus on lag? I have a Z5 and I really hope this has been improved with the mk II. If they did this is really sounding like my next camera.

The 35 1.2 doesn’t look as big as I thought it’d be.

I picked up a Z5 II yesterday. It seems like a really nice camera. The only thing I noticed is when you use a single AF point, it looks larger in the viewfinder than on the back screen. I have never seen this on any other Z cameras. Has anyone with one noticed this?

Check custom > a10 and go to focus point border width. pick 2 or 3 and see if thickening it up makes it match between.

Mine arrived on Wednesday and got a chance to play with it yesterday and today. It’s a nice camera, indeed. It reminded me of the Zf I had a while ago. The only negative at the moment is that my right hand starts to ache when I’m holding the camera for a long period of time. I may have to add a half case (Lim’s leather case, for example) or vertical grip (MB-N11 or MB-N14) to add more height to the camera body. When I had the D850, it was comfortable to hold although it was heavy.
