If the rumored price of close to 3k is correct, I'm wondering what this lens is going to have up its sleeve. I would think in that price range it needs to have some kind of Plena-esque label and feature. 1.2 alone isn't enough, since Sigma has had that in a really good lens for years that can now be had under 1k.

If they’re asking close to $3K it better be the best 35mm lens ever made by a mile.
Needs to have CV 35/2 APO sharpness and CA control (if not sharper), with gorgeous falloff to blur with minimal mechanical vignetting and fast AF.
Sony sells their incredible 35/1.4GM which is small, light weight, brilliant optically, only 1/3 stop slower and costs $1300 right now. (And it adapts near flawlessly to Nikon) 1/3 stop is not worth double the price so it’s going to have to do something very special to justify a price that high.
I personally hope it’s closer to $1800 or so, which they could potentially justify with quality optics and the slightly faster speed.

It makes no sense that the 35 would be that much more expensive than the 85 1.2 or Plena. I assume a bit of this depends on where it's made...if it's Japan, they can skirt the tariffs, but if it's China...

It's also not clear if the quoted price was converted from another currency, and perhaps includes VAT/taxes. It might also not reflect exchange rates or typical regional pricing variations.

Hopefully, this thing isn't bazooka size like Nikon's other 1.2 glass-
Nikon already makes the best 35 1.4 on the market for the Z line (imo) - Be interesting what this brings to the table beyond just sheer size and 1.2 uniqueness in a 35 auto focus lens.

It seems the current US admin sets huge tariffs mainly on allies (Japan is one, so let's see...) instead of enemies or peers. So it's hard to know what happens with those prices in the future. Most Nikon lenses are made in Thailand which doesn't seem to be a significant player in trade wars.

Personally, I would be much more tempted if it's priced around 2k. But I could see it being close to 3k. The 85mm f1.2 is 2,800 and the 135mm f1.8 is 2,500.

I likely wouldn’t buy this but if I was looking, my Tamron sp 35mm 1.4 is already a bazooka with incredible IQ. It handles and performs well adapted on a Z8 and I purchased a new in box copy for ~ $US 400. There would have to be a big differentiator for me to consider this lens.

It all really depends on who loves that 35mm focal length. I rarely use the 35mm focal length. So My Z 35 1.4 does what I need it to do and it fits well in my case lol. I mainly use the 50mm 1.2 S | 85mm 1.2 S | [F-Mount] 105mm 1.4E and 135 1.8 S Plena.
I do agree tho. I think the 1.2 will be a great lens like the rest of the 1.2 line up ....... It will def be pretty big.
I am definitely looking forward to it coming out and seeing what it's actually capable of.

I hope it is true this time. Very strange that there is such a delay since that lens was on Nikon roadmap for a long time. Granted Nikon kind of threw a curve ball with 35/1.4 out of nowhere first so that might delay 35/1.2s a bit. I have been very happy with adapted Zeiss 35/1.4ZM but let see what this lens can do. I certainly hope 2500-2800 rather than $3000 range. 50/1.2S now seems a like a great bargain

Maybe it will be announced tonight? Nikon has historically introduced new things on Tuesdays at 12:00AM EST, although they do stray from that from time to time...
Really interested to see what they have done with the 35mm 1.2 that has taken so long, especially if the price is well north of $2000. There are other superb 35mm options for far less (although not Z mount... but adaptable) so it better bring something special!

Sometimes, the price doesn’t need to make sense.
It could be more about the combination of:
1. how much did it cost for r&d? And what is the cost of the product?
2. how fast do they want to start making a return?
3. how many will sell in X time?
Now we have the resale price.
