Greetings and Happy New Year! I wanted to share some pygmy owl photos from Yellowstone. Normally I leave Yellowstone area by Thanksgiving, this year I stayed a little longer and managed to get some photos of the pygmy owls that showed up there. In my estimation there were 5-12 owls hanging out and hunting along the road. They sure did put on a great display!

These are nice, very sharp, #1 is very cool. What lens were you using for these, they are so small, hard to fill the frame I’ll bet.

Got a chuckle out of a couple of these, cute little buggers. The first shot is neat, he just tucks his wings and goes for velocity like a missile. It makes me think he has some target fixation occupying his little head for some snack scurrying around on the ground, planning a last second flare out and grab with his talons. Fun stuff.

Excellent series... TFS... Pygmy owls (and great gray owls) are the two owl species that I am yet to find and shoot
I have been to Yellowstone only a couple of times so far in Winter and late Spring but haven't had much luck with birds...
