Early in the thread there were some comments regarding intellectual property rights and infringements, mostly regarding LLL lenses, with regard to which I agree do not infringe. However, the Funleader seems to use a font which Leica has developed and do own and I doubt is in the public domain.
With regard to the filter, which apparently is a series VII and fits into a hood resembling if not exactly the same as the 12504, you can use many 49mm filters instead of the series VII if you don't have a VII handy. In general, the series filters are close to and sometimes almost the same as the series no. squared, in mm. VII squared = 49. VIII squared is a bit off, as it's not 64 but closer to 67. VI is close to 36mm. Just a general starting point.

Ok I don’t like funleader but I ordered this aritzlab 35/1.4 anyway just for fun and just because it’s too cheap. It’s on its way now, should arrive in 5 days.
I also have a steel rim re-issue and I will compare both and report back.
I've requested the Aritzlab 35mm f/1.4 Classic for review and should receive a copy soon!
I'll also compare it to the Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux v2 (Infinity Lock) and possibly the Nokton and Steel Rim reissue.

Better than I expected overall. There is some funky, teardrop/oblong bokeh until stopped down noticeable in the outdoor background area at the top left(coma, maybe near an outdoor grill?).

It exceeded my expectations too. Yup, outdoor grill
Without a side-by-side comparison, I get the impression this lens is sharper at the center than both the Leica 35/1.4 Lux v2 (Infinity Lock) and the Leica 35mm f/1.4 Steel Rim (Reissue). Wide open and at f/2, its specular highlights have a very distinctive blunted cone shape, which seems to be a unique characteristic of this lens. There also appears to be noticeable coma, similar to what is seen in the Leica lenses. However, this lens definitely has higher contrast, likely due to its modern multi-coating and the use of special glass elements.

I agree with your analysis Fred. I am really enjoying it minus the focus tab stiffness. Overall glad I pulled the trigger. Also kudos to funleader customer service. I emailed them a few times with questions about the shipment timing and they were very responsive.

Focusing rotation stiffness seems to be a common complaint. It’s possible the lubrication just needs a bit of use to loosen up.
Another thing to consider from your samples is that you tested it adapted to a Nikon Z6, so the off-axis rendering might look slightly different compared to using it on the Leica M.

It's interesting that the Artzlab 35/1.4 and Voigtlander 35/1.4 both share a similar 8-element optical design. Essentially, they are faster lenses than the Leica 35/2 Summicron 8-Element.
On the other hand, all Leica 35/1.4 Summilux (pre-asph) lenses are built with a 7-element design.

I'm curious if it is somewhat unusual that the material the focusing helicoid is made from is listed as copper. I wonder if this is accurate or maybe an incorrect spec or translation error. It seems like brass would be the obvious choice as it's less expensive, stronger for this use, machineability might be easier, it's more resistant to corrosion and so on.

The lens with this adapted design is the lightest I’ve seen, weighing just 157g. This could be one indication that the helicoid is not made of brass.
In comparison, the Voigtlander 35/1.4 weighs 190g, the Leica 35/1.4 lux Steel Rim 208g and the Leica 35/1.4 lux Infinity lock 188g.

In the literature it's mentioned the lens is made from copper and aluminum.

The odd thing is that copper weighs more than brass so it would not seem like copper was used to reduce weight.
